We had a wonderful long weekend at Hare Cottage.

We had a wonderful long weekend at Hare Cottage. Only an hour drive from Newcastle and situated on the side of a quiet hill in the Weardale valley the cottage and grounds have spectacular views of this outstanding area natural beauty. The standard of the property was great, we felt very comfortable and had everything we needed to hand. The internet connection and wifi were excellent for finding out about local attractions. We felt completely away from hustle and bustle and really enjoyed relaxing in the hot tub. The view is breath-taking from the front and side of the property. We spent quite a bit of time just sitting and enjoying the view, doing a little watercolour painting, or just having a quiet drink or two on an evening. At night it was also fantastic for stargazing due to the low light pollution in the area. Weardale feels a little bit like stepping back in time to a quieter and quainter era of villages, streams and dales. Despite feeling very remote there is lots to do locally. The local shop was well stocked and Stanhope, only a short drive away, had plenty of quaint shops with places for coffee and breakfast/lunch. We had a great Indian takeaway meal one evening from there. We brought our Boston Terrier along with us. He can be a touch reactive around other dogs and his recall is poor when distracted however the well fenced and secured grounds made it a perfect and relaxing place to leave him off lead with plenty of room for him to explore, sniff around, fetch and play. After the weekend we felt refreshed and we miss it already :) A lovely little cottage that we hope to visit again soon.

Remote Cottage

The cottage was lovely, clean and cosy. But the cottage its self is very remote . You need to get your supplies before you get there as there is nothing in the cottage has in a welcome pack . The hot tub was only luke warm and was never checked all weekend. Which wasnt good ! I was expecting it to be hot / warm . The cottage could do with suppling a few essentials like salt , pepper , oil and more than 1 toilet roll for 2 toilets . But the cottage itself was nice, clean and well presented, for the price there could have been the little extras . I never saw a property manger so i couldnt rate them .

Clean, and well spec’d.

Clean, and well spec’d. Excellent location with fantastic views. Can’t fault the house / grounds at all. In fact it is probably in the top 2 we’ve ever stayed in and we would definitely go back. There are 2 things that could have made it better.1. The hot tub price isn’t included in the cost of the cottage. This isn’t an issue as running them must be expensive and it is noted in the information on the rental however I missed that and when we have hired cottages in the past we always search for those which have a hot tub and this has always been within the price. It’s not for the owners but I think for the website it would be helpful to have two prices shown, one for use of hot tub one for without use of hot tub.2. This is a very minor point but compared to the previous stays we’ve always previously had a small welcome package usually consisting of a pint of milk, some biscuits and occasionally a bottle of wine. Whilst again I recognise you don’t pay for this it was just noticeable this wasn’t there when we arrived as had always been in the previous stays. However as earlier the property and location are fantastic and I would definitely recommend it.
