"The Fox Den" -now limited to 2 persons total. A whole house instead of a motel room. Wow! Great for a couple, 2 friends, or parent-child catch-up. Enjoy deck with gazebo that feels like a treehouse above mountain stream, the wood interior, kitchen, full bath, (outdoor shower too!), bedrooms, 2 swings, fire pit, and meditation garden. Nestled in a valley, above a creek, just below Deep Gap on the Black Mountain Ridge Crest Trail that leads to Mount Mitchell, tallest mountain east of the Rockies.
Update: Nature has healed us after Hurricane Helene hit our area September 28, 2024. We are up high, but water actually came down the road like never ever before, and turned creeks into rivers. Roads are repaired now, with a few bumps here and there. A regular car can get to the Fox Den, no problem. Most of the roads are paved. We're still cleaning up in a few spots outside, but the interior was thankfully untouched. We waited and worked hard for 7 months, and reopened in April 2025. Some things are even better than before!
This is a real getaway space, great for relaxing and being with the ones you love. Burnsville restaurants and stores are 11 miles away. Nearby are crafts, live music, gifts and groceries, hiking trails and rivers. 45 miles from Asheville with its tourist attractions when you want a city. Lounge and dine on the deck in the gazebo, enjoy the fun bedrooms, and listen to the mountain stream down below. Privacy and nature are the plan. Take a deep breath. Restore. Refresh. Relax.

Other things to note:
This is a fun, rustic mountain cottage. The interior is all wood floors and walls except the master bedroom with carpet and white walls. It is a small cozy place with three dining areas outside, two swings, and the deck.
You have the whole place to yourselves with your own kitchen, bathroom, indoor and outdoor showers (in season), bedrooms, living room, deck, gazebo, and under the cottage are two swings also for your private use.
The well water here is different from city water. It is rich in minerals and has a high iron content. It is clean and safe, but most people prefer bottled water. We provide a jug of drinking water. Welcome to the mountains!

Amazing hospitality and great place for a mountain get-away! -Samuel April 2019
Ron was very courteous and responsive. Cabin would be a great base for hiking in the Mt Mitchell area. -James April 2019
Very sweet spot! We were there in the winter and stayed very warm! Gorgeous location, just a short drive away from a nearby town with coffee shops, groceries, fly fishing shops, etc.
I’d definitely return in the summer! - Kate
Our stay was absolutely wonderful. Such a beautiful place in the mountains. My family and I enjoyed every second at the Fox den. We had campfires and told spooky stories and went hiking to several waterfalls. We drove into Asheville which is only an hour away and had a fun time looking through all the shops. We will definitely be back! -Sarah October 2018
