Central to Cardiff castle, however hotel room lacked proper lighting in bathroom, no extractor in bathroom, light switches that didn’t seem to be connected to any lights and the hair dryer didn't work.

No lifts working in a sweltering heatwave... eek

Our room was nice enough, if a little tired looking, and the hotel entrance was lovely. BUT both lifts broke down and we were on the third floor in a 34° heatwave. No apologies were given and no accommodations made. Apart from this near death experience of climbing SO many flights of stairs three or four times a day, the staff were lovely and the location was spot on. The breakfast was also very good.

The staff at the hotel were absolutely lovely - very welcoming and accommodating. They really did their best to make our stay pleasant, and we appreciated their kindness. The hotel lobby is beautiful and gives off an elegant, upscale feel. Unfortunately, that first impression didn’t match the quality of the actual room we stayed in. We booked a Deluxe Twin Room. The room and bathroom were a decent size, but the lack of air conditioning made it extremely uncomfortable. We were given a tower fan, but it barely worked even on the highest setting. The room was still unbearably hot. There was also only one power socket in the entire room, and it was located far from the beds, which made using the fan or charging devices very inconvenient. We raised our concerns with reception, and to their credit, the receptionist was very kind and gave us the tower fan they were using downstairs. It worked slightly better, but due to the socket placement, it still didn’t help cool the room while we were in bed. Overall, we really appreciated the warm and helpful service, but the room itself fell short in terms of comfort, especially for a “deluxe” room. Sadly, we wouldn’t stay again unless the room conditions improve. Really disappointed, especially for how much the room cost too £300+!

Staff were very welcoming and lobby is pretty but can also be very deceiving. Lobby didn’t reflect the quality of the rooms. We stayed in a deluxe twin rooms and it was awful. No airconditioning, there was a fan in the room but it barely work. There was only one socket in the room and it was far away from the beds which was quite an inconvenient. We complained to the staff and the receptionist was very lovely and gave us the fan that they were using! Staff are 5 stars but the rooms needs improving!

Sad but hope!!

Having last visited 25 years ago in its hey day , it was second to none. 5 star all round. Sorry to see it so sad today. But I hear it’s going to be totally refurbished and extended. If such is the case, we shall be back. The staff were still 5 star, friendly helpful and professional. A top team .

Angel needs a refurb !

Hotel really very tired - in need of a major refurb. A bit embarrassing for city given its great location ! Some staff were helpful but really disappointing - the one small lift that was working wont work for long. Gents toilets need a code entry. Photos on Hotel.com etc really misleading. Who is posting the 10/10 reviews ? Mustn’t have been there !

standard double room given us was small, more like single occupancy. Main issue, as central aircon system removed & no longer operable, (altho vents in ceiling remain), there shld be another system in room to ensure good airflow. Other than a small window only raisable by 3 inches, ( was then blocked by a piece of wood nailed to groove), once room door closed, we wrre essentially imprisoned in an airless stuffy room. Probably worse if hot weather. It was abt 17 deg & windy outside, but inside the room was stuffy, windless & felt at least 10 deg warmer than outside... good in winter no doubt, but bad in summer. The staff said the window cannot be raised higher, they brought a small portable air cooler to " suck in air from the 3 inches of single 1 ft wide window base" & "pass it on to the rest of the room." The air was cool but the stuffiness of bad air exchange remained. I feel the window cld hve been raised higher & a decor cross bar installed to prevent attempted suicides ( suicide was their given reason for nailing the window shut at 3 inches). We were on the 2nd flr. Enuf of silly reasons.

Stayed here a few times and always happy. Perfect location but unfortunately the stay wasn’t as good as normal. The rooms were far too hot, had to buy an extra fan to try to cool the room down. Breakfast was pretty empty and took a while to replace the food

Excellent location, very convenient

Overnight stay for a concert at the Principality Stadium. It was a little pricey because of the concert but the location is fantastic. Very convenient, less than a block from the venue, restaurants, and across the street from Cardiff Castle. Train station is also just a few blocks away.

Great hotel but very outdated

The lobby and appearance of the hotel makes it look grand however in the room itself it’s very outdated. We stayed on a very hot day in July and the windows did not open and there was only one pedestal fan. Bathroom is very outdated and the toilet didn’t seem like it had been cleaned with marks on the toilet seat. The door wouldn’t close properly and there was no ventilation so after a shower the bathroom was boiling. The cold tap of the bathroom sink wouldn’t turn off properly so was constantly dripping.
