Already ready for my next stay here!

Rooms were clean and well-maintained. The hotel itself is charming and the staff was very kind. Take the tour if you can and learn more about Marta Beckett and the history of the hotel! The surrounding desert was nice to walk in as the sun rose. Some of the rooms were hand painted by Beckett and I got lucky enough to be in one!

Super cool history & tour of the property. Staff was friendly & knowledgeable. Water in the shower was extremely cold but the property is very old, so no biggie. Totally worth it. Would stay here again!

Pros for property about 25 min into death valley furnace creek. Wonderful warm duvet in February. Loved the art work and history. Great staff. Cons: unsafe electrical outlet in room 24. Room heat/airconditioner which was next to double bed ran constantly to keep room comfortable. Lack of onsite restaurant and casino 7 miles had terrible food. Sewage smell.

An interesting museum, NOT recommended as a hotel.

Not sure how the authorities let this property operate. It is literally crumbling to dust (as was the intent in the Trust of the historic owner). Plumbing is ancient (instructions to run the hot water for 15 minutes if you actually want hot water), carpet may be original, stucco is crumbling inside and out, no staff on premises after 8 pm. The bed WAS clean; the shower, due to crumbling tile---not so much. The positives are the historic interest, the "Opera" House and the artistic talent of the eccentric owner Marta Becket (who painted all of the murals on the property). The closest restaurant or food market is 7 miles away. All this should qualify the property as a museum, not a hotel. If my wife was with me, I'd be divorced.

I absolutely loved my 2 night stay here for the Death Valley half-marathon. It was such a curious and cute little hotel, so charming and full of character. Check in went flawlessly, and I appreciated that the heating in the rooms was cranked up because it was winter! The hotel was very quiet and calm and the bed was very comfortable. The only possible issue was that the wifi barely worked, but I didn't mind, because I was trying to unplug in nature anyway. Highly recommend anyone looking for an affordable stay near Death Valley national park to check this place out. I will be back in the future!

The intent of my trip was to take a tour of the opera house so so stayed at the hotel. At check in I was assured the tour would take place at 9am in morning. At 9am I went to the front desk and the staff stated the tour was canceled as it was too cold. After a 7 hour car drive to Death Valley I feel Expedia mis represented what I needed to make a rational buying decision. The mold and terrible conditions would have been tolerable if the opera tour was available. I have been a loyal customer to Expedia and a discount or voucher for next trip would be nice

Ghostly Amaragos Opera House

Room itself is spartan and worn. King bed comfy. But, the whole opera house thing is very interesting. Charming murals and artifacts in common area. No sign out front so it looks closed. Must look for hotel entrance well back from the road. Nearest restaurant 7 miles north. Food okay there. There are claims that the hotel is haunted. Not our experience.

Historic building, over 100 yrs old. Because of this, it is overpowering with musty smells. Pretty bad unfortunately. It was dingy. No tv's which i get, but no other entertainment either. 100.00 a night for a king. Bed was comfy, but bedding was slightly musty in our room. Unfortunately, not worth the money charged.

This is a truly unique property that is a historical part of the region. The hotel is 100 years old and is very basic and simple, but it's a fun trip back in time with great staff and really cool architecture. It's a great experience. I later read that I stayed in one of the most haunted rooms but I slept like a baby both nights. Also, great place to explore death valley from

Beautiful 100 year old building with a lot of charme and details. The plumbing is old too, so you have to wait some minutes, till you get hot water. The staff is great and you can book tour through the Amargosa opera house (9am and 6pm).
