Beautiful property friendly staff 30 minutes from Edinburgh drive. No ac, can open window nice enough in summer. No elevator- carry luggage up 3 flights of stairs. - probably the main negative Dated needs renovation but clean- does have a nice enough tub to enjoy a bath. TV does offer Netflix etc Restaurant/bar is very cozy wine cellar vibe but not much available service wise only one staff between restaurant upstairs and bar downstairs at night. The grounds a pretty - gardens and wildlife are abundant. Can see golf course but not easily. Parking easy and safe.

We stayed at the hotel as a family of four for one night in May. The service we received was amazing. We arrived really early morning and asked to leave our luggage in storage but instead they offered to quickly set up our room so that we could check in properly and leave everything in the room before venturing out. Once back at the hotel we used the pool and children loved it. It’s warm and clean and they have some swimming aids in the pool area that we could use while there. The beds were super comfortable and bathroom clean. All in all we had an amazing stay! Thank you Chloe and team!

We were just here for one night before flying out of Edinburgh. It was a great alternative to higher priced hotels near the airport. There is a bus stop right outside this quaint spa-resort. It was clean, cozy, and well-maintained. I would recommend.

HH never fails to deliver ! We have been frequent visitors over the years and it really feels like a home from home. The staff are always exceptionally ,professional, yet still take time give each customer the personal touch. They all deliver above and beyond , a prime example of quality customer service ! The rooms are spotless, warm and inviting , the grounds are just a delight to relax in a testomony to the housekeeping staff. The spa is worth booking in for too !! Booked during the marathon weekend and the price was relatively cheap compared to others in the area - breakfast was also included so that makes it even better. Good place to stay to get into Edinburgh as the bus stop was right outside so overall a very nice place to stay.

One night stay

Stayed one night at MacDonald Hotel. The hotel was nice enough but could do with a little freshen up. For example all of the printed information/ brochures in the room were very old and battered, which wouldn't take much to reprint them. And the information sheet given over at reception was a very badly photocopied sheet. Just little things that would expect to be updated regularly. The spa is also managed separately from the main hotel with separate receptions. Room service food, breakfast, and afternoon tea food was all good and staff were very friendly.

Driving up the driveway to MacDonald Houston House is most impressive and had a lovely welcome at reception. Room allocation was a fun mission to find ☺️ Room size is so grand and the 16th century bar setting is so quaint. Stayed for 2 nights which included the spa facilities which from the outside looks late 80s aged but I enjoyed having the spa facilities included.
