Beautiful resort! All inclusive resort with a very good selection of different foods and drinks. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. Our pool waiter named Danny was amazing. He was so nice and very attentive. The nightly themed shows were very entertaining. Rooms are well-equipped with everything you need and very clean.

It’s a beautiful hotel! Most of the staff there are friendly, especially the people working at the bar areas. This hotel is really isolated and there is nothing to see. The bad part is that the road getting close to the hotel is in the poor shape with many many potholes and it makes the driving condition somewhat difficult .

We have stayed at MANY RIU properties around the world and were excited to try this one out. I will say that the grounds are stunning and ALL staff members are extremely polite. Didn’t meet anyone who wasn’t willing to help out or chat with you. However, upon entering our room we were shocked to see that the rooms needed A LOT of upgrades. The color scheme is off entirely (haha) but the wood was all painted white and just looked cheap. There is definitely a smell in the rooms…we had to be moved from the first one because it was so bad. We assumed it was from the humidity. Second room was a tad bit better in terms of the smells. As for the food, it wasn’t terrible but we were very disappointed that many days they were out of certain items. I for one, really enjoy fresh salmon for breakfast and I think it was only available for 3 of the 7 days we were there. I never found it after that. We ate at the Japanese restaurant one night and we fell in love with the tuna! We decided to go there again as our final dinner and soak in the tuna one last time but lo and behold, they were OUT OF IT. Again, a huge disappointment. Get to the restaurants early…especially the steak house and Japanese ones. Lines get very long and if you don’t make the first searing , they’ll give you a pager to come back for the second seating. Absolutely fell in love with Costa Rica. It is a beautiful country with lots to do. We will be back to CR but more than likely will not return to this RIU.

Was left underwhelmed. No nightlife - wish there was a disclaimer that the club and casino were closed for renovations. We had to go off property to have a some nights out. Food was not good at all except for breakfast. Liquor was watered down I am not a drinker and on my 3rd drink I gave up had no buzz nothing. Got food poisoning on our 3rd day. Along with a few other guests. We ended up spending extra money for my boyfriend to eat out at restaurants because the food was subpar.

This is not a 4+ Star resort. It's OK 3 stars at best. When we booked it was "Adult Only" but apparently changed since then. The pools are nice, but they're packed with people and children and large drunk groups. The staff was friendly, and we enjoyed the trip to the Water Park. The food is hit or miss, but never great. As far as all-inclusive food goes it was below average. One night I could only eat one bite of my entre. The rooms are outdated, and you might think you were renting them by the hour from the look and feel. I'm glad we just stayed a few days. It was our first time at a Riu property, and we'll never stay at another after this experience.

Pros: -Staff are great and property is very clean -Buffet food is actually really good -Snack area has food at all time -In room liquor bottles, and they even brought us tequila upon request Cons: -No AC in many of the common areas, so sweating while eating was a normal -Everything closes up very early. Bars were done at midnight. Theres only one pool bar and it was closed very early. Even the pool appears cloeed around 7 with no lighting in the area. You can swim hut it'll be very dark with no music, etc -"specialty" restaurants dont take reservations but you have to show up by 6 if you want any chance of getting in. They also all close by 830 which is annoying when many excursions dont return until 6 or 7pm -Shows were not that great

Let’s start with positives the hotel is well manicured and pretty from outside. Views from balcony especially at sunset are beautiful! The lobby is clean and the staff especially at the poolside is very entertaining and friendly. The buffet has a good selection of food but is not open for lunch. Now the negatives the rooms are runned down and need major upgrades. Every day a different issue anything from AC not working to toilet not flushing not to mention that my adult kids room had an odor of sewage coming from tub in room. On our hotel balcony we would wake up to hear and see construction happening at Riu Guanacaste that was completely shut down for renovation. The specialty restaurants were NOT good. From constant flys on food to hair found on my plate. I actually lost weight on vacation. Overall we made the best of it but I will never go back and probably not stay at a Riu resort destination again, very disappointing!
