Read the reviews and saw all the Karens moaning about the hotel being tired and dated. Pish... it's an old building with loads of character. Give me that over a soulless modern box any day. The room was clean. Everything worked as it should. The bed was comfortable. And the staff were amazing. One of our party has mobility issues so on arrival they switched his room to the last available ground floor room when we realised there was no lift... very kind and accommodating. The food in the pub was great and the staff were pleasant and helpful. We will happily stay again.

Best avoided.

A very disappointing stay that resulted in the room being refunded. To say the hotel is tired would be polite. Old and charming is one thing but frankly dirty and disgusting is unacceptable in 2025. That the staff feel it is “loved” by others is a mystery and clear they rarely use hotels. Don’t take my word for it… the photos speak for themselves. Oh - and if you do write a bad review, it gets removed, so we’ll see how long this one stays put for…

Relaxing stay

The room was clean and the bed was comfortable. I slept well. I thought it might be noisy with our window open but it was surprising quiet. Parking was pay on arrival but you can give your car registration to the hotel reception and that allows you to park foc during your stay.

Visiting famile in Fareham

Two adults and a grandchild stayed in room with 3 beds which was perfect. Breakfast was lovely and cooked fresh. Waitress was so lovely, nothing was too much for her and she was so smiley and friendly. Excellent stay.

It was a nice enough stay. The bathroom needed updating in the allocated room, it was definitely showing signs of age and use. Unfortunately the mattress has probably had countless people sitting on the side of it, as it sloped to one side. Convenient to use the pub downstairs, parking was fine.

I stayed at the Red Lion due to its proximity (by car) to the Royal Dockyard. My room was warm, comfortable bed and decent bathroom. The Red Lion is near some excellent local eats and easy to find. Parking was no issue (I just left my rego at reception), the staff likewise were wonderful.
