Impersonal and unwelcoming
Room was available for 1pm but was informed that we could not occupy until a 3pm check in time unless a £10 per hour charge was paid. Returned at 3pm but check-in took 20 minutes as there was a queue with only 1 check in receptionist, hotel manager was in the foyer having a discussion with a guest regards a police matter that should have been held in a private place. Pre authorisation of debit card for extras (£100) was taken as first step of check-in process. No details for my address and contact details for my booking reference so these had to be provided again. As two people were in room requested 2 room cards, this was initially refused but eventually a second keycard was provided, however this was clearly an appeasement as the second keycard did not work and was clearly not coded. Room was sited next to lift which as the single lift for the hotel was very busy and noisy. Bathroom very small and shower difficult to access and required shower screen to be folded/unfolded to access shower. Window view was out into back carpark where bins where located, these were full and overflowing and rats were visible going in and out of bins. Hotel bar was not opened until night porter staff came on shift so not possible to purchase anything from the bar until late evening, no still water available and no spirits. Was informed that only some of the bottled beer was cold as fridges not working properly. Overall was not made to feel welcome and it that repeat business not a priority.
