Friends weekend spa treat

Warm welcome, fuss free check in. Room easy to find and was clean and comfortable. Plenty of toiletries in the bathroom. Lovely pod coffee machine. We used the spa and facilities. The only negative i can say is that it was very busy so we had no where to sit. People put towels on the beds but didnt use them for a long time. Breakfast was good. Small selection but plenty of options.

Some basics not there, but overall ok

The bar and dining area look stunning. There was a good vibe when I arrived and all staff without exception were brilliant. Hatherley Manor is an old building and the floors creak everywhere. Take ear plugs so you are not disturbed as the sounds from above can be very loud as someone walks across their room. My room looked great on arrival, but there were the remains of a chocolate wrapper on the floor. The bed was 2 twins bolted.together. the matress on one was awful, lopsided and felt like you were being tipped off to one side. The other mattress was good. The breakfast was quick to arrive but must have been a buffet in the kitchen as it was barely luke warm. V disappointing. The team was also stewed and a very dark colour. For dinner as a business traveller i was on my own. I had a good table and was sittes comfortably. The menu was quite controlled but i asked about having something from the room service menu which was possible. The evening meal was cooked well.

Poor meal

Disappointing evening meal , piece of steak , some chips and half a bag of rocket salad chucked on to cover empty gas on plate . Having to pay for a full English in England to me is unacceptable

Fantastic location and fascinating 17th century building comprised by modernity. A hotel idea has been forced into the property that should have been given to the national trust. The spa facility is a novelty woven into the aesthetic of a hotel blueprint, with dirty pool water, staffed by teenagers with weird eye lashes. Beware of the peak times to visit the spa, either as a guest or as a visiting member of the public as the facilities are far, far too small to accommodate lots of people. If you dine here, either having breakfast or dinner be also prepared for a peak time to eat and queuing to find somewhere to sit, as once again the facilities are too small to accommodate the amount of people in the hotel. Dinner seems chaotic with elderly ladies as waiting staff running around like they are on fire, forgetting what you ordered. They look stressed and under staffed and need help with the visitors staying in the hotel. The room we stayed had walls as thin as paper. Conversation can be heard from your neighbours next door as well flatulence and belching. We happened to stay while a coach load of Japanese tourists were being shuttled through Gloucestershire, their preparation to leave woke us up at 4am as the walls are so thin. Enjoyed our stay, not perfect but ok. The staff care about what they do, it just needs some extra support and incentivising for them to make it golden for everyone who comes to stay. Keep doing what you are doing but you can do it better.

A real letdown

The food was appalling sadly. Dinner - the staff didn’t know the menu, when ordering steak, we weren’t asked on how we wanted it cooked. Steak was very average and very pricey for what it was. Honey roasted carrots weren’t roasted. Quality of the food was appalling for the price. Staff were really young and also didn’t know what cheeses were on offer on the cheeseboard. A very expensive meal where it was well below standard you could even cook at home. Breakfast - long queue to get in, shocking standard of food. Duty manager couldn’t seem to care less. Bacon sandwich would have been nicer from a truck stop. No butter, no colour to the bacon. Spa - over priced, small and easily overcrowded
