When I checked in, my credit card details were handwritten on my check-in piece of paper (not secured). I was given brief instructions on how to find my room. My room initially looked beautiful, however I found the bathroom with a puddle on the floor and a wet brown/red like substance throughout the shower. I went back to reception, to be told it is when other guests shower & splash the walls the water can make it look dirty. I queried if they had not cleaned after the last guest so the person at the desk took the key from me to go and inspect. He came back out quickly and said he would find me another room. He was clearly not happy about it and was very short with me. He went to a couple of other rooms before finding me one and gave me the key with no explanation on how to find the room. I had to ask. I went up to the room the door was wide open. I soon realised why. It was very hot inside the room and there was no airconditioner. The window only opened a couple of inches. I then found an old small fan in the cupboard. All the fan did was push hot air around. The bathroom was old and dated with a fixed shower head that sent water in every direction but down. For the cost of this hotel, I felt very let down and could not believe others gave it 5 stars. Sleep did not happen due to the extreme temperature inside the room. An airconditioner and some new bathroom fittings would change this hotel completely.

Nice hotel let down by WiFi and leisure services

This is a nice hotel with an excellent front desk but was let down by WiFi issues and services being unavailable. The ‘satellite channels amounted to twelve, five of which were unavailable, the jacuzzi/spa was closed and the WiFi in room 60 refused to connect. The unheated pool was refreshing! Otherwise the room was comfortable and staff very helpful.

The rooms are very old with very old carpet floor and lots of poorly patched timber work and bathroom. The property had no air conditioning and they put us in an upper floor on a hot day. The quality of bedding and pillows was from 30 years ago. Maybe even 80 was very disappointed with the room. The location was good and the Restaurant food that we had that night was excellent with average service. I could not recommend it to somebody who has standards of mine which demand cleanliness modern Facilities well maintained property. I would give the property one star would not look to return unless it was the only property in go away Greymouth or this is the standard of New Zealand West Coast

Falls Short of Expectations Our stay at The Ashley Hotel was disappointing. The walls were incredibly thin—we were constantly woken up by doors banging, and unfortunately, staff did nothing to address the noise. We booked a king bed but were given twin beds instead, which wasn’t ideal. The room lacked air conditioning, and while a fan was provided, it was dusty and not well-maintained. On the plus side, the location is convenient for those driving, as it’s along the highway with easy parking. However, it’s quite far from town. With a few improvements, this could be a solid stay, but as it stands, it doesn’t quite live up to its near 4-star rating.

The room was clean. I booked a King & got two double beds. When I inquired at the desk after checking in I was told the double beds were a King room. I was either lied to or the room was misrepresented. Given the area is fully booked I had no choice but to stay. Will not book with Ashley again.

Nice overnight stay, lovely room. The swimming pool is freezing & not really big enough to swim, the spa pool & hot tub were empty of water. Lovely evening meal, breakfast average, not very warm. Overall comfortable night.

I booked this hotel and was charged the full amount before being handed our hotel room key. Unfortunately we took a step in the room and lasted less then 2 minutes before we had to leave, as our disabled son was traumatized by the room and had a major autistic meltdown. We are not sure what caused this meltdown (couldve been a smell, noise, or just the room) but he was patting his ears while hysterically crying and repeating the word 'door'. He was terrified and we wouldve ruined everyones holidays if we hadve stayed, as he would not stop screaming. We handed our key back in and explained why we had to leave. We did not touch anything in the room, but they were not willing to offer any refund (not even a small partial amount.) This was a horrible experience for us and we felt like the staff treated us like we had a naughty child, even though our 5 year old has very high needs autism and is practically non verbal. A bit more compassion towards our situation wouldve been appreciated, as we did really want to stay, but left due to situations out of our control. You would think that given our situation, they wouldve had a bit more leniency towards us. We ended up lost for suitable ommodation options and this resulted in us having to drive back to christchurch in the middle of the night. I also noticed that there was no lift. This is probably the most least accessible hotel i have ever come across and i would not recommend it to anyone with any health problems or disabilities.
