Responds to inquiries, and accommodations accordingly. Had luggage storage after check out. Place was located easily. Very clean and quiet atmosphere. Some English speaking service. Late check in available and to be able to use hot springs during that time was very convenient.

Of the 4 hotels we stayed at while in Japan, this was by far the nicest and had several restaurants. It is very close to the train station so convenient. The grounds are beautiful; there is a river outside the hotel so very nice. The hotel staff spoke better English than any of the other hotels which was nice as well. Shibata Yasuhiko was excellent and so accommodating.

Room is old and smells bad. Room service starts at 7-8am so if you miss that time, you have to ask the front desk to send them back. Building structure is weird. If you stay at the Japanese-style wing, you have to walk basically across the whole building to go down to the main hall. Restaurants are a puzzle for you to resolve if you ever want to eat something there. They were so hard to reserve a seat. No info, no instruction, no one told us how to make a reservation despite us asking every single restaurant and even the front desk. There was an izakaya bar where the server just straight up kick us out. We ended up walking all the way out to the town for food. The whole hotel has ONLY 1 washer and 1 dryer, so good luck if you want to do that mid-trip laundry. 3 stars for being next to the train station and for the onsen bath. However I won’t be coming back. With the price you pay, there are better options in Hakone than this one.

The staff are top notch, and the hotel is right near the Hakone Yumoto line with multiple options for travel that use the Hakone Free Pass. There are many restaurants near. Bathroom was a little dated, but everything was immaculate. Would recommend.

Nice hotel with terrible staff

while the hotel amenities were nice the service was really bad. The breakfast serving room is way too small for the very large number of guests. As if this is not bad enough, they have only one coffee machine, where the waiting time was ridiculously large. In general, the vast majority of the staff does not understand, let alone speak English. As a result every interaction with the hotel staff takes 10 times longer than the typical time. We had two incidents where we through our hands in the air, giving up on making any progress at all. We will definitely not come back to this hotel and we cannot recommend on this hotel with this poor management.
