Would have been nice to know that parking was at the back of hotel before hand.
I know it’s an old building, but didn’t expect the curtains to blow as was rather windy outside. Looked like secondary glazing had been taken out. Actual wood work on windows was extremely dirty.
Must say bathroom was spotless & bed was comfy.

Windows are only single-glazed, so even when it was shut it still felt like it was open. I could hear music from the bar clearly and plenty of conversations outside, making it hard to sleep.
A very confusing layout to the building, with the keys not being numbered very well.
The reception myself and my dog received from Ryan was warm and welcoming.
This hotel desperately needs renovating. The bedroom furniture in the room allocated to me is antiquated, ie. dark, big and bulky and the carpet is thin and without underlay. When using the cold tap in the ensuite it groaned and the plumbing made a very loud vibrating noise when used.
Stayed for a couple of nights visiting friends and attending a local festival, great place to stay, friendly helpful staff and comfortable room. Will definitely stay again.
The Bear Hotel is a tragic missed opportunity. This is an important historic property in the older part of the town centre but it is in serious need of investment to drag it up to the standards expected in the 21st Century. The big brand hotels in Havant are always busy and the Bear has been left behind. Greene King don't appear to be a serious hotel operator. Occupancies and room charges would swiftly return an investment in the rooms and facilities. and would knock on to significantly increased restaurant and bar sales. The Bear would see a substantial functions and weddings business come back after having abandoned the property in recent years.
There doesn't appear to be any commitment from Greene King to the most basic of hospitality standards. The to do list is long. This could be a great hotel (again), with a solid customer appeal, and contented management and staff running a hotel that they are proud of.
I think customers select this hotel almost as a last choice. The online presentation is not bad, the prices are reasonable and the food is good. I wonder what the data on return stays looks like currently!
All this can change and we could see customers queueing up to book to stay here within a short period of time.

Liked: Staff & service, amenities
Staff was very polite and friendly, we felt very welcome, pub and restaurants were cozy and quaint old England style architecture, the rooms were very clean a bit dated and could do with some modernising but what we paid for I dont expect 5 star luxury. We would definitely go back there again
The property is tired and needs money spending on it.
Both restaurant and bar closed earlier than advertised.
Can't fault the staff.

Overpriced
£95 too overpriced for the standard of the room the reception staff not very friendly upon arrival the TV hardly worked the bathroom needs updating to reflect the price, the security of the room felt poor as the lock on the door was hard to operate and didn't feel very secure also the carpets leading through the hallway was very worn and tired on the plus the room was tidy and the bed was comfortable.

Old creaky but functional
Been 20 years since last stay. Greene King franchise and cheerier than last visit but not much updating. Staff helpful and price a bargain.
This hotel is beyond the point of being acceptable
The hotel is in desperate need of a full refurbishment which is likely to be substantial
The staff are making the best of the situation but the hotel is beyond the point where rooms can legitimately sell to the public.
Specifically, the room was dirty. The shower was virtually impossible to switch on and when it came on, it was simply a gush of water.
Worst of all, the mattress had collapsed making sleeping a distant dream. One side was ~inches lower than the other meaning one was constantly rolling out the bed.
This was acknowledged by the lady on reception as soon i mentioned there was a problem with the room "ah yes, the mattress...."
As they had taken my payment upon booking, i had zero leverage. I will take up with Greene king

Friendly and helpful staff. Good parking, reasonably priced and good option for Goodwood as we, and several other were staying there. All acceptable and I would stay again. The property itself is tired and in need of refurbishment.
It was OK, clean and on a very hot day a fan running in the room which was excellent. It was showing signs of ageing and could do with a revamp. In a single room bed comfy curtains cheap, bathroom old. Evening meal in the bar satisfactory atmosphere and service bit poor. Breakfast was very good indeed and good service.
