The staff was very friendly and helpful. The bar was nice, the pool area, and the sunset times with live music were amazing. They should have more activities to explore the place, not just once a day, such as a kayak tour with only 5-6 spots available. Breakfast was expensive, lunch was delicious, but dinner was buffet only, and the food was 6 out of 10. I found a cockroach in my bedroom as well. I booked the submersible boat, which was broken when we arrived for embarkation.

This is an ECO resort. Don’t come here if you want a luxury resort experience. Come here if you want a truly unique wildlife experience. The island is teeming with birds and surrounded by marine animals. You don’t even have to get in the water to see turtles, sharks, rays and fish. You can stand on the jetty or watch from the beach and you will see something amazing. You can snorkel or dive to see more. This is Australia’s version of a mini Galapagos. The resort balances guest comfort and aesthetics with budget and ecological sustainability. If you want 4 or 5 star aesthetics, this is not your place.

The property was a true island getaway. We didn't have internet, phone, or TV. We could move around easily and on a relaxed state. There is only one restaurant but the food was very good. Elliot was the activity director and he was incredibly knowledgeable . All the staff were lovely. We had a room without air conditioning but found the fan quite sufficient .

Heron Island is perfect for experiencing the natural world. The resort accomodation is comfortable and set amongst the trees with the beach beyond. Perfect for seeing turtle hatchlings, sharks, rays and numerous species of birds.

It’s is an incredible place to go diving/snorkelling. The staff are very helpful and friendly. It is not a luxury stay you go there for the reef and that is all. Breakfast is good. The dinner was also good however it is incredibly expensive. Not sure why they charge an extra 25$ a day for WiFi on top of the room price. It is an excellent experience if you don’t mind spending the money. Would definitely recommend to friends.

Heron Island is a brilliant opportunity to snorkel with beautiful sea life. Sharks, rays, turtles and coral that is starting to come back to life. The island itself is wonderful. Loads of turtles coming up the beach each evening and hatchlings popping out of the sand all over. The accommodation however is absolutely dreadful! It is severely dated with no air conditioning, broken locks, missing louvred glass in the windows, coupled with the fact that you aren’t allowed to bring food, makes for a very expensive trip, especially with young children. Considering the price you pay to get there and stay, I would expect nicer, albeit basic rooms, and cheaper food options for young children and families.

Heron Island was really organised, when we arrived off the Ferry there was a brief and we knew exactly where to go after the brief was finished. The lunch and dinner was pre booked by the accomodation and we liked that and a lovely buffet breakfast was included in our stays price. When we booked into our accomodation we even recieved beach towels, which we did not even think would be provided. The rooms are neat and tidy, they are normal rooms not super flash but you had everything you needed. There were no aircons, but we had fans. The birds on the island make noises in the evenings, so earplugs are provided by the accomodation. They really think of everything. The stay was lovely, at Heron island you do not spend a lot of time in your room, since the beach, snorkelling, diving, all the activities are just too amazing on the island. This was one of our best holidays we have had and the staff really made things easy and were very helpful to make our stay absolutely lovely.

Coral bleaching makes the lace a bit unattractive if you want to see coral. Our visit was marred by High winds which churned up the water and limited visibility when snorkeling. Got to see turtle hatchlings march to the see. We first came in 2012 and it was amazing. Now 12 years later the rooms are clean but show their age. Beautiful birds but expect to get poo dropped on you as they roost often over the walking path. There are complementary guided nature walks that are worthwhile taking.

The rooms were bare bones but the island experience was spectacular! The beds were clean and comfortable and staff was very responsive. The access the nature and marine life is priceless. This is not an all inclusive resort so expect to pay for everything else from any excursions, coffee, a roll away bed and meals. (Except breakfast) However beach towels, snorkel set and water are included! (Filtered tap water) The resort offered bird, reef and island walks. All educational and inspiring! The views, water, sunsets and marine life were incredible. Wonderful to show our children to respect our earth and do everything we can to counter the effects of climate change/global warming.

Had to go to reception to get toilet roll and to get bathroom soap filled (was empty), the day after the room was serviced! Didn't empty the bathroom bin when serviced either. Basically the reef and environment are great, but do not expect any more than 2 stars as far as room servicing goes.
