This Grand Lady was a very impressive vintage hotel with charm and elegance. Room was much more updated than expected, staff couldn’t have been nicer and the grounds were spectacular!

Not for the typical traveler. That said, it's a beautiful setting, but the accommodations are a bit rough. Could be very stunning if they achieve their fundraising goals and renovate it from top to bottom.

The continental breakfast was healthy and varied. Our room was lovely, it faced the lake and had a beautiful view. The staff was accommodating and very friendly. Perfect for a mid week stay as a quiet getaway.

Beautiful drive to the hotel. Stunning, old homes, history. The room is charming, clean with a gorgeous view of the lake and porch. It’s October and the weather is perfect.

The safety in the property is top notch. Its a 1890 built historic building. It might not be for everyone, but i liked it. It has free continental breakfast. Free parking.

Beautiful location on the Chautauqua Institute grounds. Beautiful lobby, porches facing lake, plenty of grounds to enjoy. The hotel rooms are in need of much refreshing. Cracked linoleum and severe sloping bathroom floor. Carpets very dirty and spotted. Due for updating. Do not count on eating at the bar and snack area in rhe lobby, not in the Heirloom Room for dinner. The three nights we were there, they had weddings and events. So were closed to hotel guests.

Athenaeum - Sept. 2025

We enjoyed stepping back in time to admire the unique building style of the 1880's. The room was a little smaller than most hotels, except New York City, but was very comfortable. It was a very pleasant experience staying at the Athenaeum Hotel and very relaxing. Also, the "Continental Breakfast" was way beyond the norm...excellent. There were plenty of choices and stocked very well. This was indeed an unexpected bonus. Lastly, walking around the hotel and Chatauqua Institution was very enjoyable.

The hotel itself is quite lovely. Very old world 1890s era charm and craftsmanship. The room was pleasant and clean, very high ceilings and large windows. The bed was very comfortable. With all that said, the hotel was built before cars. It's very tight and we did not expect to have to park appropriately 1/8th mile away. We are perfectly capable of the walk, and they do offer valet parking and shuttle options. But I feel they should make that known for older folks. Also the bathroom, clean as it was, left me a bit disappointed. Everything worked, but the shower was sad. The staff we dealt with was mostly pleasant and helpful. If you wish to have a view of the lake, you want the East side of the hotel I believe
