to start, when booking this room, it was not advertised anywhere that this was a hostel. it was listed as haka Hotel. the room was ok - the bed was stiff and hard, plugins were only available as part of the headboard, the shower looked like a jail shower.. woke up to the smell of tuna/ fish first thing in the morning at 8:30. and to top it all off, we paid $356 for this room.. that is more than a luxury room we paid for in Queenstown.. wouldn't stay here again. probably good for backpackers on a budget, who are ok to share a dorm- but definitely wasn't for us.

Room was ultra small with no ventilation without opening the windows which attracts insects. Very small bath area. No trash can, tissues, moisturizer etc. Bed was super high for people with accessibility issues. Very small single comforter.

I had a wonderful stay at Haka House Lake Tekapo. From the moment I arrived, the experience was excellent. Molly at the front desk was absolutely amazing. She gave me a very detailed and patient introduction to the hotel, the surrounding area, and all the things to do in Tekapo. She even explained where to shop and how to get around, which was extremely helpful for a first-time visitor. Her friendly and thoughtful service really made me feel welcomed. The hotel itself is extremely clean, comfortable, and well-maintained. The common areas and kitchen are tidy, the rooms are spotless, and everything feels modern and well organized. The location is also perfect—close to the lake, shops, and walking paths. Overall, I had a great experience and would definitely stay here again. Highly recommended

The place is nice overall, it's at a prime location. However their beds creaks!!!! Also the whole place only has 2 washing machines and 2 dryers. If the place is full probably close to 100 people staying the laundry efficiently not enough. It's not a hard no but I'll not stay at Haka if there's other reasonable options in the area.
