Check-in was crazy. They had no room to store our bags and 50 people checked in at the same time with no rooms available. So everyone is just standing around waiting with suitcases filling most of the room. They told us our room would be done in an hour, but it took 3-4 hours to get all of our rooms ready. We could have left and done something with our time, but the communication was terrible. Not equipped for so many people.

A beautiful hotel in a fantastic location. I have very mixed feelings about The Brown, Guatape. On the positives, the hotel is located in paradise - a beautifully secluded location. The restaurant food is superb, and the beach club is incredible. However, The Brown is advertised as a Luxury hotel 'Autograph' which was not matched by the service. The hotel presents images of a well equipped gym, and whilst there is good cardio equipment, many of the images are outdated with almost all of the weight training equipment not in the gym - it was actually very basic for a hotel gym weight equipment wise, with one multi gym, two legs machines and a few free weights. The hotel rooms are advertised as sound proofed - this is a misrepresentation. On my final night I was kept up all night from thumping music on a boat in the lake - far from the hotel. The thin windows do not do much for outside noise at all. Check in was not a welcoming experience with security not speaking english and asking us for our hotel bracelets - which we did not have prior to check in. He demanded proof of reservation at the hut - where there is no cell service.. Eventually he had a clipboard with guest names - that could have been simply used from the start. We were driven up to the hotel reception to line up for 10 minutes before we could check in. The bathroom had mould in several places by the toilet wall, shower wall and elsewhere which was obvious and what I would expect in a basic hotel.

The view is outstanding and the facilities are beautiful. The food was also very good. However, there was no Christmas decorations whatsoever; and the staff at the breakfast were not very attentive. The food is also extremely overpriced for Colombia.

La chambre était propre avec une superbe vue. Le personnel gentil et attentif. Nous avons passé du bon temps autour de la piscine. Le déjeuner est vraiment excellent et varié. Bon restaurant avec des prix raisonnables. Seul bémol, la route pourrait être améliorée sur les deux derniers kilomètres, qui sont hasardeux.

The hotel itself is a GEM in Guatape that you have to experience. The views are breathtaking and attention to detail are 5-stars. The only reason I'm not giving it 5-star rating is that there were a few issues with my suite (hot water took forever to come out, room jacuzzi useless with no hot water, etc). We were served a pork chop medium term at the restaurant (which is a big deal for Pork as it's not steak) and service in general was very slow. The restaurant at the bottom was so much better in taste and quality, which was strange.. Other than that, amazing property!
