The location was great, easily accessible by car and easy free parking. The property on the exterior is beautiful, well kept grounds and nice architecture. The inside is nice however tired, our room had a big water leakage from the shower to the carpet, made it very moldy. Spider webs and insects are everywhere in and around the property. The breakfast was good and the staff was very friendly and helpful. Overall a decent stay, wish the interior of the property was up-kept to a higher standard.

Not such a wonderful welcome. We were allocated a room up top at the back of the main house. Above the kitchen. This wing / area is well known by the staff as the noisy space! The kitchen extractor is still going well, actually it might have been quieter sleeping in the kitchen. it was like being in an airplane! We did complain and advised it would go off after 8.30pm. It did go off at 9.15pm. Hoorah! Oh no 12.15am, just dropping off when the kitchen extraction fan is switched on again. Got dressed and went down stairs. No reception staff so the proceeded to the hotel kitchen, where a member of staff was dressed down and cooking something up! He apologised then turned the extractor off. I returned to my room. A noisy room not only with the kitchen noise but also the traffic. Oh the shower was dreadful, really needs replacing. The Hotel has huge potential but now requires/needs some tlc. Never any evidence of management on any occasion we have stayed. Yes been before but really must avoid the kitchen wing. Oh lovely breakfast thank you. We were told to book because it was going to be busy but only four guests when we arrived at 9am.

This is a smaller hotel with a homely, personal feel that felt unique compared to larger, more commercial feeling hotel / spa combos that are becoming so common now. We felt very comfortable playing games and having drinks in the evening, enjoying the unique heated outdoor pool and generally relaxing. Our room was large with a huge, comfy bed with crispy clean linen and a lovely hot bath with bubbles. Our evening meal was exceptionally tasty and well presented - the baked Sole was the best meal I've had this year . This would easily be a 5 star review except for a funny interaction with the restaurant manager who, despite my booking a 6:30pm dining slot weeks ago, which the front desk confirmed on arrival, looked at me like I had two heads when we turned up to dine...he did speak to us at first, didn't use any pleasant or even polite language to put us at ease and made me feel a bit silly TBH by staring at me in the hallway until I spoke. This person needs to follow the example set by his team who were all warm, conversational and put us at ease. There was a 60th birthday in the big function room that perhaps took his attention away, but I couldn't help feeling this chap is in the wrong industry. Other than that, we couldn't recommend this enough. A little gem tucked into the Wiltshire countryside.

Brilliant.

The hotel was unexpectedly fabulous, made so by not only the beauty of the place but also by the friendly and extremely capable staff, in particular Elaine at front desk.

There was no offer of porter services to and from our room. We had to haul our luggage up 3 flights of steps. The room was smaller than expected. The dining staff were friendly. I was rather surprised at the price of 2 poach eggs, sausage and a small croissant at 19 pounds or $25.00 dollars. Each morning. If i had been given a an opportunity to know prior i wouldn't have ordered it. Maybe because i took the small croissant and butter off the breakfast buffet i was also charged for that also. It was disappointing.

Excellent experience

This was our second visit in two weeks. We were initially attracted to it because of the outdoor heated pool which did not dissapoint. The staff were helpful, courteous, polite, professional. The rooms immaculate - very relaxing. We had food on the second visit - dinner was perfect, breakfast, likewise. They seem to get everything right here. We look forward to visiting again - very, very soon.

Lovely grounds

Our third visit here. We love the grounds and location close to Lacock. Breakfast was a little slimmed down this year and we were informed a latte cost an extra £5. I think there needed to be a drinks menu at breakfast informing if drink options and surcharges. More local produce would have been nice. There were unfortunately some works outside our room which meant our room had a pungent drain smell. We did report to staff but they bought really offer any contingencies. Overall a lovely stay but a few slightly underwhelming features this time that made it hard to justify the price point

What a pity, as this hotel has so much potential. the room was not ready until after 6, the cleaning had been abandend half way through.There was no apology Although the room was advertised as cosy. it was more than big enough the problem was with the cleanliness.There was a weird smell which we didn't get to the bottom of, the head board had a thick layer of dust and behind the bed was disgusting. The night staff assured us that it would be cleaned for the next night. It wasn't. well I had already had one disturbed night sneezing, I didn't want a second so asked if they could clean it before i went to bed, which they did. With a bit of attention to detail,this hotel could live up to it's 4 star rating which at the moment it sadly doesn't.

Faded grandeur

We booked for 3 nights for a convalescence break. The first room we were in had a huge hole in one side of the bed as the mattress was clearly very old. The staff were excellent and moved us to another room the following day which was much more comfortable. We were on the shady side of the hotel with some road noise when windows were open but the room wasn’t too hot despite the weather. There is no double glazing in the hotel which needs updating. Grounds and pool are good. Staff were all very nice

The grounds of the house is beautiful. We wondered around and even walked through the cornfield. The staff was Excellent and went out of their way for anything we needed. My college student son even took his final online exam in the Library which is over 200 years old and the staff gave him a pitcher of water, cookies and a Good Luck note. Best kept secret in the areas.
