Disappointing visit
The main problem was the poor choice and quality of the breakfast. On the first morning, the alternative breakfast was missing the advertised yoghurts and pastries. There were no mushrooms or tomatoes with the cooked breakfast, although these items were supposedly included. There was no choice of bread, most of the tables were half set and the general quality of the food was poor. On the second morning, there were no tomatoes or mushrooms but this time, no eggs either. This left no choice of cooked breakfast at all. Generally the hotel seemed tired and run down. The chef worked hard and tried his best but nothing he did could make up for the general delapidation.
The big negatives first.
I booked a classic room, paid extra for it.
Arrived at the hotel and was taken to.... A normal room.
The receptionist didn't bother to tell us we'd been downgraded, and when the difference in price was mentioned....this was completely ignored.
She tried fobbing us off saying it's the same kind of room, despite making one as a classic room with 4 poster and the other as a standard king size room.
Id paid for the 4 poster classic room not a normal one. It turns out that no one had cleaned the classic room. Had dirty bedding and towels etc.
So had a downgrade and they chose to ignore the extra money I'd paid. Bit fraudulent really.
The room we ended up with was ok, if I'd booked that room then I would have been pleased with it.
Location is beautiful, breakfast was lovely.
But the rip off and fob off will be the main memory.
Comfortable stay, pleasant location. Room clean and had everything needed for our one night stay. Unfortunately no bar or restaurant at present but a communal room with fridge and microwave available if needed.
Reception staff seemed glued to their seat giving us the key which was simply placed on the desk. We asked if breakfast was available she simply said NO and carried on doing whatever. Bathroom in room was too cramped.
The hotel is old and has issues. Only heat that worked in the room was a space heater that was brought in.
Bednwas ok but not nice
Bathroom very cramped
There was no food available due to refurbishment of the kitchen but a staff member Toni took me in her car to the nearest Chinese takeaway - a service above and beyond the call of duty. Very helpful friendly staff.
The hotel is not actually in the town of Mold as I thought but in Northop, a few miles outside.
Reception was not good. Not a lot of information forthcoming.
This stay made me think that I was going to be one of the last guests as they were closing down.

Very cheap. Nice room with a bath and shower. Slept well. Just out of the way requiring expensive taxis to get there and back.

Lovely old building with many original features. Yes, it's a little tired, but lovely white bedding and towels, excellent shower. All in all, hotel did what it needed to do!

The room was spmehere to sleep - no thrills no spills - ot was what is was
Staff uttered approx. 5 words whilst handing key over. To say the room was 'tired' is being kind - it was in desperate need of a facelift. It had a grubby feel to it with dated furniture, small holes in wall, dust and flies in windowsill and rusty bathroom fittings. The emergency exit along the corridor was wedged open all night which didn't feel safe or security conscious so put me on edge. I've given 2 stars purely because we slept and that was the purpose of me booking!!
the outdoor area was absolutely beautiful, room was standard but perfect for how much we payed. the man we spoke to whole world there was lovely. would definitely stay there again if i ever found myself in that area again

Jaded - in need of an overhaul
Room was ok and clean, towels ridiculously small. Fire door on ground floor kept open with a log. Holes in the wall that have not even had the attempt of being papered over. No facilities for food all in all a bit jaded though the garden area was lovely
Waiting on a full refund checked in and check out straight away from a 7 night stay! nothing open very run down smelt damp felt like the pictures shown on expedia was completely different in person we was the only people in here.
