Overall, good deal for the price. A few notes: Bring towels as there was an issue with them running out one day. Make sure you make reservations ASAP through the app as they fill up and staff are not willing to accommodate no reservation groups even if there’s open tables. Don’t rely on the “24/7” food option as that also wasn’t stocked at 1am when we were looking for a late night meal. Don’t expect an overly friendly staff - we had plenty of rude encounters. We chose to not take it personally and assumed the negative attitudes were secondary to a full resort of lots of people. The spa was super behind and our massages started an hour late, so plan for delays despite appointments if you choose to go. The property does have a nice beach, great pools with both kids areas and adult only pools. The swim up bars are nice. Food was overall pretty tasty for an all inclusive, just don’t expect to be able to get in to try all the restaurants if you have a short stay and don’t book reservations ahead. Again, overall good quality for the price.

We’ve traveled to over 25 countries. This all-inclusive was hands down NOT A FOUR STAR. I’d give it a 2.9 at most. The rooms were average. The food was always the same. The pools were cold. The mentors were minimal. The family room bathrooms were AWFUL, with zero privacy.

My wife, 6yo daughter and I had a wonderful time during our 10-night stay at the Riu, which looked far cleaner and modern compared to the dreary exterior of the nearby Sandals. Here are my top tips for staying at the Riu: 1. Bring sanitizer. There was only one working sanitizer station in the entire hotel, just outside the buffet entrance. None of the cook staff wears gloves and few of the guests use sanitizer, so you're sharing serving spoons and tongs with about half the hotel staff & guests. 2. Bring lots of dollar bills. Very few of the guests tipped, but we made it a practice of tipping a few dollars at every meal and $1 for every drink. The staff appreciated it and gave us better service over the course of our stay. 3. Be sure to tip for service that is out of the ordinary. You want extra beer in your minifridge? Tip the man that restocks the drinks. 4. Bring slippers for the room. Our maid was excellent, but a beach resort can't escape sand. No matter how clean the room appeared, there was always an invisible accumulation of sand that had to be brushed off the bottom of our feet before getting into bed. 5. Stick with the buffet food. Not all of it is good, but after trial and error you'll find what you like and it will be better than the restaurant food (however, we didn't try the Mandalay, which always had a wait list and seemed very popular). 6. Riu Land (for kids) is only open for two 2-hour periods each day (and closed on Tuesdays). Plan accordingly.

The room was quite spacious and the beds were king sized, appreciated it as daughters shared a bed. The entertainment staff was very high energy and the shows were spectacular. Jamaican food in the buffet was good.

Very overcrowded. Staff were unable to cope happily with the volume of guests. Food was cold and sometimes undercooked. Queuing for everything to eat in the buffet, morning, noon and night.

Staff is very friendly and always do their best to meet everyone’s needs. Great staff members! I would recommend RIU Ocho Rios to anyone.

We loved this resort! The food was great and the service was good too. We went as a family with small children and our kids loved it, especially the water park. Beach is beautiful and again food was so yummy!
