Very quaint, old-timey inn with hosts who were both friendly and accommodating. They made us feel right at home. I wanted the experience of stepping off a ship into a new land, and that’s exactly what it felt like—in the best way. Breakfast was wonderful, shared with a true Scotsman and his incredible hospitality. (Pack light as there is no elevator as it was built in the 1800's)

Upon arrival the exterior was less than promising. However, once inside the front door we were greeted by shining hardwood floors and super clean facilities. The proprietor, Dandy, greeted us warmly on the 2nd level and asked us to join other guests for a. Glad of wine. Very positive. Rooms were quaint and neatly outfitted. Great place.
What a great place this charming 3 star historical home could be under a different administration!
King rooms had comfy beds and the back terrace offered a great outdoor space to enjoy a free glass of wine and get to know other travelers.
However, the good vibes unraveled very quickly when the owner deemed it appropriate to loudly start voicing his political opinions with paying customers. Awkward and offensive. Unless you condone the things that are currently happening south of our border or hate Canada & its leadership, stay clear! I am still trying to forget some of the vile things this man let out of his mouth in support of the current US leader.
Please don't take my word for it, just read Sandy's abrasive responses to any traveler reviews that list deficiencies of his property or describe this man's obnoxious character.
Breakfast rooms are lovely but for the 3 people in my group who had breakfast, the continental offerings were underwhelming.
To end this review on a positive note, we were thankful to be able to return a forgotten room key to a market 15 mins away from Pictou. Our oversight!
The Inn operates more like a B&B than an Inn. Not a big fan of B&B's. Prefer a more private experience. Also, take the warning about the stairs seriously. There are a lot of them.
Great stay.
Sandy and Kathy were wonderful hosts.
Beds were very comfortable and the hotel has been beautiful maintained.
Nice glass of wine to welcome us to their beautiful establishment.
If you are staying in Pictou then stay at The Scotsman.
Amazing hosts! They recommended what to do before check-in. ( Something not seen in guides or trip advisor) And was fantastic. Host recommended and booked a restaurant for us that was exceptional. Breakfast was an amazing experience and great quality. Highly recommend
Amazing stay. They’re very helpful, they know the area and gives good suggestions. The room and the whole Inn are STUPENDOUS and we wish we could’ve stayed there more. The experience of breakfast was very unique and delicious. Makes you want to go back to Pictou ! Thank you :)
The hosts were great! The continental breakfast was excellent! The patio area was fantastic!

C'est un vieux bâtiment, mais l'intérieur très bien entretenu. Escalier un peu étroite, mais c'est une vieille bâtisse. Beau cachet. Propriétaires très recevants. Merci belle expérience.
The location is great for walking to anything near the harbor. Colorful Scottish host wore kilt to breakfast each morning. Breakfast served on beautiful china was always the same yogurt, granola, blueberries, and crescent dished out by host onto our plates. We either had to wait to eat or were hurried out because others were waiting to eat. Lots of steep stairs. Gorgeous back patio/yard and private parking behind. Rooms are small no tv, frig, or microwave. Shower extremely small. Comfortable bed. Friendly hosts.
Sandy and Kathy are wonderful hosts . . . outgoing, friendly and accommodating. We really enjoyed our stay with them. Their hotel is lovely with a great aesthetic.
