Our daughter had a rare blood disorder and couldn't travel or even attend school in-person for a couple of years. To celebrate her recovery right before school started, we booked a last minute trip to Aruba because it was safe, industrialized, and a beautiful place to visit. We couldn't get on our first flight because AA made an error and re-booked us on the same fight the next day. Exhausted and drained, I let the hotel know that we won't be checking in as planned but to expect us the next day so that our reservation wouldn't be canceled. They immediately replied about a one night penalty to which I was insulted...and they kept bringing it up... and i told them that it was common sense. Being in the hospitality field, they should have more tact. Bring up billing later... during checkout? Our 10 printed tickets with seats at AA again the next day was non-existent in their database and we were offered stand-by for both flights to which we said no thank you to. I was able to get refunds for our jeep rental and even non-refundable tix to flamingo island, and everything else after explaining about our flight mishap but Embassy Suites refused to give us a penny back. Expedia reps were even shocked because hotels issue refunds in cases like ours. Horrible customer service, no empathy, and just money hungry.
