So nice to stay in a historic (old by NZ standards at least :-D) building. It is beautiful and should be celebrated like that. It was also lovely to read the pamphlet about its history. I wish they could put the parapet back up!

I loved how central the accommodation is. Walking distance to the shops & cafes. Room service was great. Having a restaurant, bar & offstreet parking is excellent. Staff was very friendly & professional. Highly recommend.

Property was clean but basic and a bit dated. Queen bed in room had a very hard mattress, unit only had one bedside cabinet and power plugs for each side was behind the mattress, bathroom looked like it had recently been modernised. Door had snub lock plus chain, strongly recommend that you use the chain. Had an issue of someone walking into our room at 12:10am using a master key, ignoring the privacy requested sign hanging on the outside of the door, then stopping in the entrance when we loudly advised her that the room was taken then she stood with our door open for a few more minutes cursing that she was there to collect some milk before finally leaving our room. Only discovered that she was an employee (night porter) when we rang the front desk to complain that night and she answered the duty phone. She stated that she had got the wrong room. Reported this to the front desk the next morning and was told that they would comp our meal the next night. However when we went to confirm the credit ahead of the meal that night, we were advised that only a portion was credited. Advised hotel that we had been told that morning that both our meals would be credited otherwise we would have changed our accommodation during the day to another motel, they went back to management who eventually gave us the full meal credit given earlier. Nice restaurant, cafe and Bar that allowed you to charge back against your room number. On checkout, the hotel attempted to double charge us.

Lovely building

It was a lovely room. Just the right size for our one night stay. We were annoyed that the electric blanket was incredibly hard to find and plug in to use. I broke my permanent bracelet trying to lift the whole mattress to get to the plug on both beds. The heater has 3 different places to make sure it is on (overkill), had to call the desk to get it working. Positives: it is a lovely old hotel with a quirky room system. A few stairs to conquer but also a small elevator. It is very central to everything. A lovely walk up amd down the road to find quaint shops and wonderful old buildings. The people were nice and the cleaning lady was especially perky in the morning. Everyone seemed.to be happy to work there.
