Stayed in a 2 bedroom suite… Fantastic Master Bedroom, Living Room 2 showers and baths. Impeccably decorated. Large, large shower enclosure. The managers (husband and wife) running the place were great. Views out the windows and sliding glass door were straight at the beach and bay ( nobody or thing blocked any of the views

This was one of the worst hotel stays I have ever experienced. We booked a two bedroom villa and were given a single studio instead, with no explanation and no apology. Only after repeatedly pushing did they offer a so called solution, which involved splitting us into two separate rooms far apart, one of them with no view at all. They advertise WiFi in every room. Our room had no WiFi at all. We reported this issue more than 10 times during our stay. Each time we were told someone would be sent to fix it. Nobody ever showed up. I had to rely entirely on prepaid mobile data just to check work and could not upload anything the entire stay. Cleanliness was extremely poor. The room clearly had not been properly cleaned before our arrival, nor during the stay. The floors were so dirty that you could not walk barefoot. It felt neglected and poorly maintained. The property also advertises a gym, which does not exist. The photos online are misleading. The only positive is the location and view, but that does not come close to compensating for the lack of basic services, broken promises, and poor management. No accountability, no ownership of issues, and no compensation offered. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone.

Beautiful location but a few issues with room. Bed that was two singles put together as a king was on wheels which weren’t locked off so bed kept moving around on wood floor. Door to room did not close properly. Air conditioning shut down after first half an hour at night,unable to reactivate . No phone in room to notify front desk.

Fantastic stay at the Sands Hotel. The apartment/room was exceptionally clean, modern and spacious. We had an amazing view of the Harbour and easy access to the beachfront. The resturant was great, with friendly and accommodating staff. The pool was pristine too. We already planning another trip back!

Easy access to beach. Nice little deck through ranch slider door facing morning sun. Nice tiled renovated bathroom and good shower pressure although no shower door or curtain. Spacious room but no easy chairs. Smoke detector base fitted but the actual detector unit was missing. Staff didn't get back to us after we raised the matter twice. Very poor lighting making reading impossible at night. Collection of mis-matched furniture. Kettle perched on fridge and tea making essentials in a cupboard 3 metres away. No outdoor lighting made walking around the complex unsafe after dark. No allocated car parking and current renovation work made parking more difficult. Not good value at $230 per night compared to other Northland accommodation.

All the staff were friendly and helpful. Hotel is going through some renovations all for the better. We had room 8 which had been redone with lovely view to the water. While there was a hotpot for tea, would have appreciated a coffee maker in the room. Restaurant had great bar, steak, and calamari.

We had fallen in love with the Sands Hotel in an earlier overnight visit (2023). The ocean view from the room was exceptional and the weather was pleasant so we slept with the doors open listening the to ocean and the breeze. Staff was wonderful and meals were good. Folks went above and beyond by being able to make up an ad hoc dinner when the power was out - delicious fish dinner by candlelight. There was a decent number of construction projects underway so it looks like the hotel will only get better.
