Character and comfort in the heart of west Cornwall
A HOME TO RELAX AND UNWIND
Step inside Cornish Charm and the atmosphere is immediately apparent. The through living and dining room on the ground floor is a wonderfully inviting space, full of character with exposed beams, two comfortable sofas, coastal artwork throughout, a shelf stocked with board games, and a wood-burning stove that makes even the rainiest Cornish evening feel genuinely special. A retro Montpellier fridge-freezer adds a touch of vintage charm, and the room flows effortlessly into the dining space, making it perfect for easy family meals and long evenings together.
Just off the main living space, the breakfast room opens through a charming stable door directly onto the private sunny courtyard — a wonderfully sheltered spot to enjoy a morning coffee in the Acapulco chairs or an evening drink at the bistro table, with palms lending a quietly Mediterranean warmth to the scene.
Up in the attic, the reading nook on the landing — complete with a wicker chair and a striking exposed granite wall — is one of those quiet corners that guests love to discover. There is a real sense of history and depth to this house, and it wears it all lightly.
Please note that one travel cot is provided. If there is more than one infant, guests will need to bring an additional cot and linen with them.
THE LAYOUT
Cornish Charm is arranged across three distinct floors, with thoughtfully varied spaces that give larger groups plenty of room to spread out and find their own corners of the house.
Ground floor
The ground floor comprises a generous through living and dining room filled with natural light, coastal art and period character. Exposed beams, two sofas and a wood-burning stove make this a wonderful space to gather at any time of day. The dining table seats the whole group comfortably alongside the stove. A separate breakfast room with a stable door leads directly out to the private courtyard.
The kitchen is bright and skylit, well equipped with a gas hob, oven, microwave, washing machine, four-slice toaster and hot water kettle. Cornish coffee and a generous selection of teas are provided for guests to enjoy from the moment they arrive. Wine glasses and all kitchen essentials are included, along with a drying rack for clothing.
First floor
The first floor offers two bedrooms and the main bathroom. The first is a spacious double bedroom with warm original timber floors, local coastal artwork on the walls and plenty of clothing storage and hanging space. The second bedroom is a twin room decorated in a bold and cheerful teal, sleeping two guests in single beds, with one of the singles featuring a sweet window seat nook. Fresh linen and towels are provided throughout.
The family bathroom on this floor is a classic period room with a deep soaking bathtub, ideal for unwinding after a long day on the beach or the coastal path. A separate WC keeps busy mornings moving smoothly for the whole group.
Attic
The built-in attic — reached via slightly steep stairs — is one of the most characterful spaces in the house. The attic double bedroom features a soaring vaulted ceiling with exposed pine beams, fresh linen, and a side window offering rooftop views stretching over the church tower and out to the open sea. A landing reading nook with a wicker chair and an exposed granite wall adds centuries of Cornish character to this wonderful top-floor retreat.
Sleeping for larger groups
For groups of more than six, the property can comfortably accommodate up to eight guests. A 4ft sofa bed is available in the living room, and a single pull-out futon — slightly narrower than a standard single — can be placed in either of the large double bedrooms. Please let us know in advance if you require these to be set up for your arrival.
Outdoor space
The private walled courtyard is a real highlight of the property. Sheltered and sun-catching, it is furnished with Acapulco chairs, a bistro table, palms and a cheerful garden shed. Whether it is morning coffee, an afternoon read or an evening drink with the group, it is a lovely space to escape to throughout the day.
Parking
Parking is available on the street outside and spaces come and go as they do in other nearby streets. There is also a 24-hour paid car park approximately five minutes on foot from the house, which guests find a reliable alternative.
Access
The property is accessed via a lockbox located to the right of the front door. Full access details will be provided ahead of your arrival.
LOCATION
Penzance is one of Cornwall`s most authentic and characterful towns, and Cornish Charm sits right at the heart of it. The house is positioned on a quiet residential street less than five minutes on foot from the town centre, the high street and the train station, making it incredibly convenient whether you are arriving by car or rail. Guests regularly comment on how easy it is to walk everywhere from the door.
The town itself offers a wonderful mix of independent character. Antique shops, art studios, galleries and an abundance of cafes and restaurants are all within a short stroll. Penzance promenade is a short walk away, offering sweeping views across the bay to the iconic St Michael`s Mount and the famous Art Deco Jubilee swimming pool, which is a destination in its own right whatever the season.
Just a short distance from the house is Newlyn, the working fishing village famed for its excellent fish restaurants and thriving arts scene. Equally close is the enchanting village of Mousehole, with its quaint harbourside cafes and unmistakable Cornish atmosphere that glows beautifully at dusk. And of course, the cosmopolitan town of St Ives — with its world-famous Tate gallery, golden beaches and vibrant restaurant scene — is easily reachable for a day trip
The beaches of west Cornwall are among the finest in the country. Whether you are after sheltered coves, wide open Atlantic strands for long morning walks, or world-class surf breaks, they are all within easy reach of the house. The dramatic coastal paths and countryside of the Penwith peninsula are equally spectacular and waiting to be explored at any time of year.
