We had a great vacation during Christmas 2025 at Viva Maya. Large buffet with lots of different options, and when the buffet was closed they have a kitchen by the pool. Make sure to make reservations for the A La Carte restaurants right when you arrive for the rest of your stay, you will not get in same day or even 1 day before. The mexican restaurant and staff there were so much fun. The staff that stood out for us were Jose Luis at Cafe Maya, which has the best coffee, frappes, and smoothies. Luis who worked at adult pool December 27. And the other gentleman I forgot to take his name down, who was working adult pool Dec 25 & 26. He was so patient, quick, nice and respectful. The adult pool was the best. Zero noise except for the birds. Own bar and bathroom. That is usually the only place you can get a chair as well as the beach was always filled with people putting their towels on it. The location is very safe as it is a gated community with homes and resorts and golf course. Even going out of the resort it was lovely seeing Playacar and the ruins that are very close, which you can rent bikes for free and get there within minutes. There was no wifi in the room at all, and when you were in a spot that is populated the wifi stopped working. We were on the 3rd floor (top) if that makes a difference. Insanely talented shows at 9:30pm each night, was better than our Cirque du Soleil show we went to. Would absolutely recommend and go to this resort again.

The beach is gorgeous, and the staff is super friendly. But, there’s no cell service or WiFi in your room. The WiFi only works in the common areas. The food in the buffet is never hot, it’s always lukewarm. You have to make reservations at the restaurants, and there aren’t many tables available. The only hot food is the pizza and fries at the snack bar. The evening shows are really fun and entertaining. The 24-hour bar is great, and the bartenders are awesome. I absolutely loved the spa service, it was worth every penny! The whole community is gated and well-secured. We felt safe even walking down 5th Avenue. The beach is breathtaking, and the staff is incredibly friendly. However, there’s a downside: cell service and WiFi are limited to the common areas. The buffet food is consistently lukewarm, and reservations at the restaurants are scarce, leaving you with limited options. The only hot food is pizza and fries at the snack bar. On the bright side, the evening shows are entertaining and enjoyable. The 24-hour bar is fantastic, with knowledgeable and friendly bartenders. I highly recommend the spa service, which is absolutely worth the price. The community is gated and well-secured, making us feel safe even walking down 5th Avenue.

Viva Wyndham Maya – Playa del Carmen: Very Disappointing Family Experience We stayed at Viva Wyndham Maya in Playa del Carmen for 6 nights as a family of three (my husband, our 9-year-old son, and myself), and unfortunately this was one of the most disappointing resort experiences we’ve ever had. Food & Dining The food was, quite honestly, inedible. This was by far the worst buffet food we’ve ever experienced at any resort. Selection was limited, repetitive, and poorly prepared. The quality was so bad that my husband and son ended up surviving almost entirely on pizza and fries for the duration of the trip. Dinner reservations are extremely limited — only one reservation per three days, meaning we were allowed just two reservations for a six-night stay. Unfortunately, the à la carte restaurants were no better than the buffet. The food quality was the same, and the kids’ menus consisted of the same snack-bar style food we were already trying to avoid. Despite sticking to very basic foods, both my son and husband became sick. My son was vomiting all night upon our return home, and my husband’s stomach has been a mess since the trip. This was our eight time on the resort, we are a family of six. I have to say this year was exceptional, we already like the place but in the past we felt that some of the shine was fading. There was for sure a lot of work behind the scene to have an incredible team of animation, buffet quality unbeatable, shows at the level of the best cruise entertaining. Well done! Really well done. We loved our time here and we are super sorry to leave.

Definitely amenities - there was none in the room when we checked in. The Italian restaurant is very slow in delivering the food and both times we were there the food was lukewarm and not tasty. While the buffet has a large variety of food, the quality can be improved.

I been their 5 time in same hotel.. major issue always same Management and staff running the place, it’s all about making more money out of you, and service of the staff major issues, everything you ask from them takes forever.. It’s about what package you buy, you buy from Expedia .. they treat you definitely. We told them I been here more then 5 time in same hotel , you think they will treat us repeat customer with open alarm but No Hotel is good , I hope they can change the management they don’t even try to speak English properly..

Food was horrible, and gave me a confirmed bad case of Salmonella Poisoning. Definitely should not show as a 4-star resort. Maybe the amenities they give to members would increase it's ranking, but this was hands-down one of the lowest quality resorts we've ever stayed at in the Cancun area. Ice bucket provided - but nowhere to fill it. No bottled water provided in our rooms. Only had access to their 'purified' water on each floor. Also - our bathroom had no actual wall between it and the bedroom area. I'm sure some appreciate the exposure, but we do not. Will not try another of Wyndam's resorts.

Our day was wonderful due to fabulous dancers and the social entertainment team. They really were all such a highlight. So top-notch, fun, professional, and engaging. Special thanks to Wilbur, Laura, Valentina, Brandon, and Jair for bringing such fun and flair. They learned we were there for my friend’s birthday and they planned an over-the-top celebration for her. She loved it! The dancers at the nightly shows were wonderful. Carbi, Lori, Fernando, Lucy, Megan, Andryk, and Diego were all so engaging. They danced with us after and were friendly and so skilled and passionate dancers. The outdoor venue locations were also spectacular. The beach was truly outstanding, and I love the jungle retained in the location. Restaurants were really good as well. If there’s any room for improvement it would be to deal with the mustiness in some of the rooms- possibly mold. They kindly moved us after we asked.

This was the worst hotel stay of my life. Checkin in at 11:30 pm, I was met by a man who could only grunt and point. My room was very far away and alone would do is point me in the direction of the path. It was very complicated and far away from the desk. Upon waking up, there was no Internet at all. I called the front desk and told him, and his reply was, "well the Internet is better in the public areas." Um so there's none in my room??? I called back and got a woman and had her send a maintenance person who confirmed I had no internet. I called Hotels.com. They called the hotel. They told me to go to the desk for a new room. So I packed up and went all the way back to the desk. Oh we can't give you a room until 1:30. UGH. I go all the way back. Then MAGICALLY they found an available room. I moved. This room has no hot water. I tell them at 11 am then go to some appointments and return at 1:30 pm. Still no water. Oh no, there's hot water. The guy fixed it. They lie. At 2pm I went to the beach. I can't get a beach towel because they never gave me the towel card I have to exchange for a towel. So another trek back to the front desk! By 6pm a manager shows up who barely speaks English and I think he came to check the hot water which was on, but nobody ever told me so I could then shower. At 7pm on my Biz zoom, the Internet turned off. I hate this place and only want to leave the next day. So I went to guest services to book an airport transfer. No more room to type.
