The hotel/room and the breakfast were average. Nothing special. But that is what I expect from a Holiday Inn Express. What I did not expect - a broken shower. And a subpar breakfast (usually pretty decent at the Holiday Inn Express. Just not this one.

We stayed overnight in order to attend an event at the Dominion Energy Arena. It was a 10-12 minute walk from the hotel. There were restaurants in the area as well so the location was very convenient. The hotel room is not big but very adequate. I have no complaints.

No frills in a great location to head down to the James River or downtown area. The only area of possible concern is the parking garages have a low overhead. So if you are driving something tall, inquire about parking options outside of the two parking garages.

I was very unhappy with certain staff on the property. First off, before our trip even started, I called at 9am both Thursday 9/18 and Friday 9/19. I was calling to let the staff know that our flight would not be arriving until 11:32pm therefore we would not be checking in until after midnight. The lady that answered the phone, both mornings, was extremely rude and not helpful. All she kept telling me was that midnight starts a new day and our reservations may be cancelled. The purpose of me calling was to make sure this did not happen but she sure made it sound like it was going to and even hung up on me the second time I called. I then waited until 6pm on Friday 9/19, the day were set to fly out, and talked to a different lady on the phone. She was great, made a not in my account on both of my reservations, and told me to have a safe flight. Boy, that was hard! Second, the weekend worker that is to oversee the breakfast was less than desirable. The pancake machine did not work all weekend (which was what my family and I were most looking forward to each morning,) the coffee dispensers were constantly empty, and at one point, she grabbed the garbage can (that was next to the coffee machines) took off the lid and dropped it on the floor with a few of us around, it sounded like a gunshot, then (without apologizing for scaring the crap out of us) pushed through us to get to the coffee machine. People like this are the reason we will never stay at this establishment again.
