Overall the stay was just ok. The house was clean on the inside, and has been redone fairly well. It is convenient to many popular spots in Rocky Mount. Beds are all doubles, but it worked out fine for us. There was quite a bit of trash in the yard; I picked up a few things but there was more, including around what appears to have been a camp/trash fire in the back yard. Trash can outside was completely full and smelled bad-I made sure it went to the street even though it wasn’t the day for it. As soon as we walked in the door we were smacked in the face with the odor of weed. We’re not opposed if people choose to do that-lord knows I’ve had my fair share and then some back in the day. But it was overwhelming throughout the entire house. It was the very first thing our 13 year old daughter said. Owner was notified immediately so we hopefully wouldn’t get charged for it. There are NO smoke detectors in this house at all! As a professional firefighter for 25 years, this is terrible in this day and age. No house, especially a rental, should disregard the basic safety of the people staying there. Ceiling fan in the living room is set to high speed; the remote (which I eventually found in a kitchen cabinet) didn’t work to slow it down, which made the fan and overhead light unusable. If you plan to cook during your stay, be sure to bring whatever you need with you. The kitchen by far is the worst appointed kitchen we’ve ever seen.We would not stay here again.
