Great stay

Our stay was amazing. We went fishing in the Ngongotaha River and stay at the Rydges Hotel, which was not far away from where we wanted to fish.

The staff were very reserved and NOT helpful to their patrons. Even not able to provide minimum facilities like tissues on the site. Rooms are not very air-conditioned. For the same price, we can get far better rooms in a convenient location.

The hotel is on a quiet residential street near a thermal reserve, so the smell of sulphur can be a bit overwhelming at times. Hotel is quite lovely.

Needs a refresh.

Check in was excellent, very warm welcome. . Loads of parking and a very friendly receptionist found me a room so I could check in early. Room was very dated and needs redecorating. Broken tiles in bathroom, terrible tap, old worn carpet and lots of damage to walls. Bed was clean and comfortable. My room on third floor was above the loading dock so at 11pm I was woken by wheelie bins being loaded, then from around 6am, noisy trucks were arriving with load reversing signals and general unloading noises. Walls in room were very thin, as I could near a baby crying and general snoring. A minor hiccup on check out as the receptionist tried to charge me for someone else’s room, but she apologised and it was resolved within 5 mins.

Location was great

Location was excellent for our needs being close to the Māori village and redwood forest. There is a strong sulphur smell though throughout the hotel. Plenty of parking.

Upon entering the hotel, the staff were noticeably disengaged and inhospitable. We were given a key and told where the lifts were and that was it. No welcome, no mention of amenities. The room was dusty causing an allergic reaction. The room was also outdated and despite having a balcony, there was no real purpose for the balcony. What made matter worse was one morning at 7am we removed the sign from the door signalling that we’d like the room cleaned. Hadn’t been cleaned. We asked reception at 2pm for a clean up and then left the room to give them time to do the cleaning. Came back and the room was untouched. Called again and told someone would come and clean up. We left again and upon our return, we found a neatly folded pile of sheets on our bed, with fresh towels in the bathroom and the old dirty ones on the floor still. Dirty cutlery and cups still on the bench. I had to go down to reception and showed the photos only to be told we shouldn’t have had the sign up on the door the day before. The guy at reception apologised and sent someone to make the bed. Overall the service and quality of this hotel was not worth the money paid. The parking was ample and was located close to all the main attractions.

Overall a most enjoyable luxurious stay - relaxing spa and pool, nice meal, heavenly bed with deluxe extra long pillows especially after considerable car driving. We also really liked this location of the hotel, being away from the city centre and its busyness, noisyness, shops and considerably more people, and with easy access to and from the highway.

This was our second stay with Rydges Rotorua, beautiful facilites as usual. However the room, particularly the window (Full Height Glazing) was quite.. poor in hygenic state. The entire window frame was quite bad. But! other than that, it was great.
