It was ok. For the same price I could have gotten a hotel room with two beds, pool and rooftop terrace, but I was duped by Hotels.com thinking it was $75 cheaper, till Casa of Essence, added the $65 "property fee," which no one else charged.

Property is located in a very central area. Easy check in instructions available. The building is quite old and needs some TLC. The downside is that they also had quite a bit of cockroaches crawling everywhere and would benefit from a fumigation.

No hot water except for the shower.😕

We enjoyed our stay and the location was excellent. Having said that, we wouldn't stay there again. The main draw back was there was NO hot water in the apartment except for the shower in the bathroom. A device that generated heat was attached to the shower head. No other faucets had hot water.

Beautiful room in the Old San Juan. Responsive and attentive host. Safe building with access only with passcode. Liked the welcome drink. Very close to the Old Castle, and the famous Mallorca breakfast place. Would have liked a window though.

I rented out 2 rooms one was good, the other had a roach infestation. This particular room was comfortable and very convenient for sight seeing around historic VSJ. It could be cleaner as is evident by our other room, owner and staff were friendly and quick to respond.

The location is awesome and the staff is friendly and quick to respond, but room was infested with roaches, left day before check out (2 day rental) was scheduled, staff apologized but that’s simply not enough. I do mean infested as we killed over 7 roaches and saw more, staff and owner pretended to be surprised by infestation, if indeed they didn’t know it is their job to know.

No staff on site but the owner is extremely responsive and provides all info needed for you stay. Door, gate, and room codes are sent out about the day before your arrival. Rooms are clean and have everything you need. Location cannot be beat. All of old San Juan is at your door step

Great place for those whose location is priority

Amazing, bustling location. Steps away from all of Puerto Rico's history. Apartment didn't feel incredibly clean. Older building charm though. Kitchen had dishes but no sponge. Would probably make more sense to have two full size beds in bedroom ( instead of twins) than have futon in middle of living room to make space for 6. Owner was responsive when had needs!

Me and my family decided to stay here for one night while visiting old son one on our way to Vieques. I was pleasantly pleased with Crystal and her team during my visit. They were very kind and helpful. The location is absolutely perfection. It is in the heart of old San Juan, the room itself was beautiful and the Chandeliers everywhere in the hallways were gorgeous, you can tell that the attention of detail was well planned out when designing this place I will definitely be staying again in the future and highly recommend to anybody planning to stay here in old San Juan and I’d like to mention this was a very safe spot and many food/ restaurant options nearby. The room itself also had great AC and the beds were very comfortable, and super clean.

Small room with small bathroom and shower. The "Welcome" binder was a good idea with information and recommended places to eat but it mentioned relaxing with the bottle of champagne they had supplied (but there was no bottle of champagne) On the second night there was a heavy rain and I woke up to puddles in the room (The Patio Room). The slamming door at the bottom of the stairwell wasn't appreciated. There has to be something they can do to stop it from slamming every time someone uses the stairs. I could hear it loud and clear in my room.

Casa of essence is located in a really convenient location in old san juan which allows to explore it easily with a lot of options for food, drinks, and music all around. The Bamboo room is overall good and comfy, but there was a moldy odor in the room. We also saw cockroaches in the bathroom and near the fridge. This didn’t ruin our experience, so I recommend this location for your stay in the beautiful San Juan.
