Definitely the strangest hotel I stayed in in Taiwan. There are both good and bad points and some really weird things. Overall would not stay here again unfortunately. The good: the view of Da'an Park is amazing and excellent value for the money. The hotel is older but has a lot of quirkyiness, an 80s style atrium and glass elevator, a gothic look with a lot of old wood, multiple renaissance style paintings, a truly amazing bathroom, and well proportioned rooms. The bad: this hotel does not have fire doors which is the main reason I would not stay here again. The service was curt and while not rude was not particularly helpful or friendly. I speak Mandarin fluently and asked whether there was a place to wash clothes was told "Please turn right." Because I had read Hotels.com reviews, I knew they would provide detergent. So I asked about this, and the woman just wordlessly turned around and gave it to me, but there's literally no sign anywhere saying that and she gave no indication that she would have provided this if I had not explicitly asked. At minimum this would have involved another trip to the desk. I am a Mandarin speaking Anglophone Asian. The people at the desk seemed significantly less weird with white guests, so ymmv on this point. It was mildly annoying, not a real dealbreaker. The weird: pretty strong smoking smell on the 12th floor and....a mirror on the ceiling, which we chose to mostly find funny.

The room is a bit older and smaller but usable. Room was clean and our room had a window view. The bathroom space could be better used. It had a gigantic tub and a smallish space for shower. We arrived at Rido after the long flight and wished their bed was softer. It is in a nice neighborhood across from Daan Park. If you take the MRT and have luggage, Exit 6 has the elevator that brings you to the street level. Exit 1 is all stairs. There are 7-Eleven and Family Mart nearby plus plenty of food options.

Very old hotel, service is just so so. Check out time 11am, need to pay for a later check out. The good part is they have free laundry you can use in the in-door parking area.

Great place. Not for everyone.

We really enjoyed our stay. Period. The short version is that we'd highly recommend this place and stay here again without a doubt. A few details to make this more useful. When we got to the lobby, there was a particular scent/smell. Not strong, and we could not tell what it was and we probably got used to it. It was not bad, probably being in an old city with old buildings. We booked a regular room first, then decided to go up to a park view one, and were not disappointed. Incredibly nice view above the trees on the 10th floor. The room was bigger than expected, comfortable and clean. And the view was just a nice, green welcoming thing every morning. Two things to keep in mind: if you want all friendly smiles 14/7, this is not it. Some front desk folks were super nice and friendly, others were still correct, but more on the serious side, not a ton of emotion, smiles or anything. Not bad, just probably unexpected when the person that received us the first day was friendly. English was understood mostly. And you may find there is a VIP thing in hotels.com for this one, but the money won't give you much here as there is no room service, bar or restaurant. They did have some free snacks and water, coffee, etc and they left a banana and some more snacks for us daily. And the neighborhood is quiet and nice and good location, at the center of everything we wanted to do. But depending on your style, maybe far. We loved walking 5-15 miles per day... or you may need to jump on train?

Great location and classical-styled rooms

Park view room was excellent. They have a 19th century theme going on, very tastefully and cohesively done. Location is perfect to explore the city, especially with the MRT next door. Highly recommended.

Great Renaissance style hotel in excellent condition Hotel lobby area is fairly small but the rooms are very spacious, clean and elegantly decorated. The hotel location is excellent and very closed to Metro station and Daan Park. Will definitely come back again!
