Beautiful, historic home, but downsides
First the good things: This is a classic home in Dalarna, what's known as a "gård" – a collection of wooden houses, often hundreds of years old, that form a ring around a yard. The view of lake Siljan is beautiful. Tällberg is a historic town in one of the most beautiful areas in Sweden that's known for health retreats and arts & culture, right between Leksand and Rättvik. It's perfect. The home has 2 bedrooms that each sleeps 2 people and the kitchen has all the cookware and dishes you need (you may need to get some basics for cooking). It has lots of special traditional touches. We loved spending time with Alice, the adorable and affectionate cocker spaniel. The not-so-good things: It's typical in old Swedish rental homes that you need to bring your own sheets and towels, but usually they are priced accordingly. This felt priced for more accommodation, but with the expectations of the old days. I knew in advance, but it would have been nice to travel from abroad without needing sheets and towels. The place is special, but I needed to sweep and wipe down surfaces when we arrived, and several drains were clogged with hair. There was no soap other than some dish soap. There was one almost-used roll of toilet paper and one almost-used roll of paper towel (so we had to stock up). The host, Thomas, is very friendly – almost too much. He frequently walked into the home uninvited and unannounced. We were happy to talk with him, but it could be a bit much.
