Good stay - would come here again

Really nice hotel, showing its age a little bit and could do with a bit of TLC in some of the common areas. Great stuff, with great service at the check-in, concierge and bar. Breakfast was good although the staff seamed quite overworked. Nice pool area outdoor. Outdoor pools were good. Gym could do with a little bit of a refit - feeling kind of old and it would be nice to have a sauna /steamroom in the spa area.

Over an hour late checking us in with no real concern the room wasnt ready for 3pm check in wouldn’t have minded but reception just didn’t care we had to sit about waiting. Room was ok quite clean bed was comfortable windows had all hand marks over them We were in 4th floor with partial sea view which was quite nice facing the train track but that didn’t really bother us . Overall look of the building inside and out is quite run down would be a lovely hotel if this was looked at . Lovely warm pool both inside and out. Breakfast was fine but had an evening meal and was not that great which h was a shame because it cost a bit Overall nice location had a lovely time in Torquay Would we stay in this hotel again ? Probably not I think there are nicer places around for less money or better for the money we paid

Good stay overall

Overall very clean but ventilator in bathroom has not been cleaned for a while. Also areas around lampshades/bulbs not routinely cleaned. Breakfast and dinner options are excellent. Room comfort was excellent as well. Hotel location - excellent. Limited car parking space. It would be great if reception staff can offer advice around alternative parking options or more information provided when booking.

We have given less stars this year. Was highly disappointed in a few things. Bathroom, cracked sink glued, very low toilet , child’s height, no shower curtain , toilet seat loose, toilet handle did not function correctly. Food in dining was not worth the money, returned 3 times . Only one dining area open this time , at night other one with views was closed after 6pm. Pool area needs upgrading, locals attend the pool daily meaning there are less beds for those in vacation and we had broken sun bed ( 3 were broken ) pool also needs cleaning. For what we payed we were highly disappointed and will not be returning to this hotel. Others complained also.

Review of the Hitel

This was a very nice hotel and and we had a Sea View however due to the flying birds around the area, the windows were dirty with bird poo. The hotel should ensure cleanliness of the windows too.

No usb sockets for phone and the kettle did not work. Also was a couple so why only one hot chocolate?? But couldn’t use it anyway as the kettle did not work. One of the female bar staff was very abrupt and forgot to make a pot of tea I ordered. I had to return to the bar twice to remind the staff I had ordered it by which time all my friends had finished their drinks.

The hotel had no A/C and our room was on the top floor, the window could only open and inch so ne ventilation. It became so unbearable we had to leave the hotel at 3am and get a taxi home. All the rooms were full so no alternative apart from a fan could be offered

Staff after amazing. For the price of the room, it was not worth it. The room had stains in the carpet, although cleaned well such as the bathroom and no dust, the room felt grubby and dirty. Needs a good lick of paint and clean flooring

Room was very clean and quiet we had a great view. Breakfast was fine and the restaurant areas were clean and pleasant. Hotel needs a lick of paint outside, and probably some money spent. But overall the Grand Torquay is a perfectly adequate hotel in a good location especially if arriving by train.
