## Emplacement
Nestled at the bottom of one of the most beautiful harbours in Europe, Toulon oscillates between medieval and maritime past. Start the tour with the picturesque old town with its rich architectural heritage. The typical alleys will take you to the 18th-century Church of Saint-Louis, with a neoclassical façade and a superb dome with lanterns, then to the charming Place Puget where the astonishing fountain of the Three Dolphins is erected, covered with lush vegetation. A few blocks away, Sainte-Marie-de-la-Seds Cathedral is an 11th-century building that was later enlarged during the 17th century. Its beautiful classical façade is decorated with baroque motifs and gives way to an interior that is both Romanesque and Gothic. Its 36-metre high bell tower is surmounted by a wrought iron bell tower dating from 1740. Continue your discovery by filling up with scents and flavors at the Cours Lafayette market, which takes place every day, a must-see to soak up the Provençal atmosphere of Toulon. The beautiful opera overlooking Place Victor Hugo is also to be included in your visit.
Alongside the port and dotted with shops, restaurants and cafés, the Cronstadt quay is a very pleasant place to walk. It is here that you can see the Old Dock, created under the reign of Henry IV, and the New Dock built by Vauban at the end of the 17th century. But also the Royal Tower, classified Historical Monument, which tells part of the maritime history of the city. First a defensive building, it later became a prison, then an annex of the National Naval Museum, before being bought by the city of Toulon in 2006. A landscaped seaside park has been arranged for the promenade, offering a superb view of the bay of Toulon! Then, why not opt for a guided tour of the boat harbour?
