Had a very nice stay for one night. The reception desk was so helpful and gave great restaurant recommendations. The rooms were clean and quiet—a good place to rest after a day tour of the fjords. The outdoor cafe with views of the lake and mountains was also special.

Fun time in Voss with historic hotel

Reception was very helpful. Restaurants and food trucks nearby. We lightly heard the train station from our room; noticeable but not loud, and convenient. Hotel could use some simple art on the wall in the room.

There were a large Norwegian team that stayed over and overtook the ski rooms. Unfortunately, they were not smart enough as they blocked access ways of a door and ramp by placing their equipment in front of it. This made it a hazard especially for children. The poor review is due to the hotel’s ignorance to the situation after they were notified.

The property is conveniently located right next to the train station and gondola, but that's probably the only thing it's got going for it. The general condition and overall service of the hotel is not up to much. The staff seem to make excuses for this by saying that the hotel is very old. Well, that maybe true, but that doesn't account for the lack of general maintenance. We only stayed for 1 night, but during our stay we encountered several problems. First of all one of our beds wasn't made after we checked in, so we had to return to reception, much to the annoyance of the staff member on the desk. There didn't appear to be any working telephone in the room, so we weren't able to call down for assistance. The downstairs bar and lounge does look very elegant giving the feel of regal sophistication. But don't be fooled. On the day we left I attempted to order an Irish coffee at the bar and got told a flat "no" because they "don't know how to do that"... I said I could make one myself if they just gave me a cup of coffee and some whiskey, but I immediately regretted that decision due to the fact that even though they charged bar prices for the coffee, they just used an automated machine to make it. When I attempted to pay for the drinks this turned into another drama as I was told that the till had been locked by a member of staff from the previous day so I had to wait around for about half an hour before that could get sorted. Pay a bit more to stay at the Scandic next door.

Property is very dated and neglected. Our room had a very very musty smell that I can only describe as wet stinky socks. Additionally the wall paper in the room was coming away from the walls and the bathroom caulk looked pretty gross. We booked the hotel for the pool facilities, however those are very neglected as well. I can only say that the photos online must of been taken years ago, as it does not look as nice in person. Hotel staff were great and accommodating and I think the staff in the hotel are doing the best they can with what they have. Unfortunately the hotel needs renovation and investment. We wouldn't stay here again. The hotel was not terrible however it was bordering acceptable which is not what we were expecting.

Great one night stay

Great one night stay - friendly staff on arrival, well maintained historic hotel with spacious and comfortable single room with basic amenities, like kettle and TV. Fantastic breakfast, good spread and eating in the beautiful ballroom. Swimming pool with good changing facilities - could maybe use a revamp but still good in current state. Overall, I would recommend if staying around the area as convenient for all things nearby.

Great hotel and breakfast

Very close to train and bus (which worked well for us). We had a hiccup at check in, but all was resolved. Great breakfast. Room had a sitting area, the extra space was great. We did not get a chance to enjoy the pool.

Very old hotel. Food was terrific. I ate there for egery meal including breakfast. They underestimated the facility. The sauna was great and then there was a pool and a hot tub. Both excellent. I highly recommend.
