I'll start with the positives. All the staff I interacted with were quite friendly and I also received an upgrade to a double room with a sea view that I didn't ask for. This meant that my room was very spacious and there was a built in wardrobe that was also spacious enough to easily accommodate my clothing. There was also sufficient hangers, which was another plus and finally, the toilet and bathroom was also very spacious. So, these are the things that prompted me to give 3 stars and not one or two.
Now I'm sure that when this gothic hotel was first built in the 1850s it was indeed "Grand." But unfortunately, over the years any grandness that existed has long disappeared into the mists of time. The place is falling to bits, paint and wallpaper are peeling off the walls, and even though my room had clearly been serviced so that the basics were in order, I found the hotel in general to be quite dirty. The windowsill, for example, in my room was filthy. I slept well in the bed but I wouldn't stay here again. Please..drop the "Grand" and change the name to plain old "Atlantic."
