Pleasant hotel in a good location . Only 20 min stroll to the town centre. Breakfast was very nice and excellent value . Room was clean with comfortable bed & good shower . Staff were very friendly and always keen to help if asked .

Disliked: Staff & service
Unable to be serviced for food due to short staffing. Room was unclean engrained odours.
Hotel very clean and staff friendly. Noticed the room didn't have any drawers.
A little nag was although peppermint tea was available in the hotel either wasn't available at breakfast and we were told it would be 'extra'
We had a comfortable room. We slept well in the comfy bed, with lovely white cotton sheets.
Thd bathroom looked like if had been recently furnished. There was a bath with overhead shower, which worked well.
The tiwrld were nice white bath sheds, and a smaller one for hair drying.
We had tea snd coffee making facilities Hairdryer provided. And a TV on the wall.
The staff were all efficient and friendly in every area. Nothing was too much trouble.
We had breakfast twice , and evening meal twice. The food was very good each time.
I recommend this hotel to anyone wanting to spend time near Whitby.
It is conveniently located near a big Sainsbury’s supermarket, and a Lidl. It took us around 25 mins to walk into Whitby. But we took a taxi one time. And drive ourselves too.
Penny Hedge is a friendly, clean , comfortable little hotel. We have stayed here a few times. The breakfast is reasonably priced and of good quality. The food in the bar is good on an evening. All the staff are very friendly and helpful in all areas .
The rooms are very clean and comfortable . The beds are comfortable, the bathrooms are clean and adequate. We will always stay here when coming gif a break in Whitby and surrounding areas.
Good clean rooms on the stamp of premier inn/travelodge. Rooms in a building next to the pub. The pub itself was very nice inside. Next to a main road so some road noise. Breakfast was average.
Convenient for our trip. 20 minute walk to the centre of Whitby. Accommodation spacious clean and away from pub area (Annex) so nice and quiet. Next to main road so some traffic noise but perfectly acceptable.
Rooms were very quiet, didn’t hear any noise at all through the night, nice breakfast which was great value, friendly staff, free parking. 20minute walk into Whitby which was ideal for us.

Liked: Cleanliness, staff & service
Booked this as a first visit to Whitby. It was a little out of town but suited our needs & price range for one night.
We booked a family room & it seemed a standard room with extra beds in it but still spacious enough for a night. The bed wasn’t that comfortable but it was convenient having the pub/restaurant next door.
We didn’t experience any issues except the room smelled a bit musty on arrival which was quickly solved by leaving the window open while we went for dinner.
While the hotel was unremarkable, the evening meal in the pub was disappointing. They had run out of roast dinners by half 5 & although the menu had plenty of choice, the meal descriptions weren’t exactly reflective of what was served. My ham & leek pie was meant to be served with honey roasted carrots & kale. The carrots had clearly not been roasted or anywhere near honey & there wasn’t any kale. The mash had that coating which comes with being sat under a heat lamp all afternoon, although the pie was very tasty. My wife’s red thai curry was also tasty but really watery & not very creamy. My son’s chicken burger was highly recommended by him though.
Despite this we tried breakfast the next day, it was much better. I believe Deborah & Andy (the landlord/landlady) were working this shift, you could tell they cared about their business & were very welcoming. I would book again if we return to Whitby.
Marstons at Penny Hedge.
We have stayed here several times and it has been a lovely, peaceful stay each time.
Car park is spacious. And after a full day exploring, nice to come back to somewhere so inviting.
Very friendly accommodation, comfortable bed good for parking , car recommended but possible to walk to Whitby maybe taxi back ! Bar / restaurant on site food very good . We will definitely stay again .
