Clift Hill

This generously proportioned Edwardian mansion was designed during the final years of traditional domestic service and built in the early years of the First World War. It provides a wonderful setting for large family gatherings, celebrations, reunions and group getaways.



Outside holiday periods, the owner resides at the property, giving it a warm and homely atmosphere enhanced by antiques, character features and thoughtful touches throughout. A range of additional services can also be arranged to make your stay extra special, including private catering (£15–£45 per person), murder mystery events (from £300) and hot tub hire (details available upon booking).



The property accommodates up to 21 guests across 9 bedrooms and 3.5 bathrooms, one of which is en-suite. Two bedrooms are located on the ground floor and benefit from wide access doorways, although only a WC and washbasin are available on this level. One of the bedrooms has been converted into a bunk room, making it particularly well suited to hen parties and larger groups. Bedroom 9 can also accommodate up to three additional guests on camping mattresses if required.



The spacious kitchen is well equipped for catering to large groups, featuring a traditional Aga as well as a commercial oven. Pets are welcome but must remain within the kitchen area, where they can enjoy the warmth of the Aga and relax on the provided sofas.



The house offers a fantastic range of amenities for guests of all ages, including board games, a trampoline, slackline, swing, fire pit, barbecue and river swimming, with wetsuits provided. There is parking for up to 10 cars.



Set against the backdrop of spectacular views across the Solway Plain, the property is ideally located for exploring the Lake District, Hadrian's Wall and Southern Scotland.



This is the perfect venue for celebrating birthdays, anniversaries and family milestones. Children and grandchildren will love spotting hares in the garden at dawn and deer wandering through the orchard. Evenings can be spent watching films on the big screen, enjoying a barbecue around the fire pit on the terrace, or relaxing beneath the stars.



Hadrian's Wall, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, lies just 10 minutes away. The Lake District National Park and the North Pennines National Landscape are both within easy reach. Nearby Carlisle, one of Britain's great Border cities, offers a fascinating blend of Roman history and medieval heritage. Its magnificent cathedral is particularly noteworthy, featuring remarkable misericords and a stunning painted ceiling depicting a midnight-blue sky scattered with golden stars.



For dining out, there are pubs in Longtown and nearby Smithfield, while the highly regarded Hidden River Café is located just along the river and can be reached by a delightful 20-minute bike ride.

Clift Hill offers its guests barbecue grills, an arcade/games room, and a garden. The front desk is open around the clock.
