There is a huge difference between a space being tidy and a space being clean. Many things in this house were not clean: spare blankets were soiled, the kitchen shelves, counters, coffee maker, floors were filthy, there were footprints on bathmats from previous guests. The first morning of our stay I found mouse droppings under the kitchen sink. I immediately messaged the host, and a handyman was sent out to set traps. On morning two, h came back because a mouse had been caught, and he set more traps. By that evening, a second mouse had been caught. I dealt with the second mouse myself and advised the host that an exterminator was needed. By the third morning, two more mice had been caught. After four dead mice in three days, when I told the host that we would be finding accommodations elsewhere, she said she was sorry that we felt we needed to leave. After nothing more from her for 24 hours, we reached out to VRBO hoping to get some help. When they contacted her, she lied to VRBO customer service about the mice. Even though VRBO customer service has access to our message thread where she acknowledged the mice in the kitchen, they would not do anything to help us because I did not take any pictures for proof of the mice.
