Extremely Disappointed – Pool Injury, No First Aid & No Hot Water Our stay at Royal Palace Hotel was ruined by an unsafe pool and poor service. While our son was playing in the pool, he cut his foot—likely on the drain—leaving an open wound. Reception had no proper first aid kit. After a delay, staff returned with random pads and two alcohol wipes—no bandaids. For a hotel serving international guests, this is unacceptable. He remained in pain the next day and missed our morning plans. When a supervisor finally called, there was no apology—just a $50 refund offer and dismissive comments like, “That’s how the pool is built,” and “It wasn’t bleeding, so it shouldn’t matter.” Before any of this happened - one of the hotel staff also came to the pool and asked for us to scan our room key to prove we were hotel guests. This was highly insulting and they didn’t ask any other guests at the pool to do this – do they actually think we were trying to sneak into their pool? To top it off, on our last night there was no hot water for over an hour. Our kids had to go to bed sweaty and uncomfortable. A deeply disappointing experience for what would otherwise be a nice hotel. Families should be warned.

The hotel had all the practical amenities & is in excellent proximity to the entrance to Old Quebec City. There is plenty of storage in the rooms, a good sized mini fridge, microwave & espresso machine (I preferred the restaurant coffee over the provided pods & coffee mate). The provided shampoo, conditioner & body wash are in dispensers mounted in the shower, which was fine. The air conditioning worked well. The in-room amenities were generally moderate quality, but served their purpose. The room itself looked dated & tired - my duvet had a red stain (possibly nail polish) on it and there were other unclean marks around the room, the bathroom door keeper was stuck - so my trust in the cleanliness & maintenance of the room was shaky. Housekeeping is graduated - services increased with each day in the room. This seemed to be a family-centred hotel which meant a bit more noise at times & kids dominating the pool & hot tub. The sauna was in a dark corner of the gym which also seemed too remote & darkly lit to want to use it. The indoor pool & hot tub are decently maintained. Younger children were permitted in the hot tub. Service was generally fine, but staff seemed a bit stretched. We came to this hotel after being at a hotel where the staff really went out of their way to ensure we enjoyed our stay, so the difference was noticeable, but perhaps not an entirely fair comparison with the Palace Royal perhaps being a large hotel understaffed for its size.

Having the pool was great and proximity to walk into city center. If you have never been to Quebec this location couldn't be any easier to see everything you want to see in the city center.

Great location, horrible breakfast

Positives: The rooms were comfortable and quiet. The staff was friendly and helpful. Having a balcony overlooking the pool area was wonderful and the live music on Friday night was great. The location was great being just outside the wall to the old city. Negatives: There appeared to be black grime (mold?) around the sink, handles in the shower and on the ceiling in the bathroom. The smell of chlorine from the pool was very strong in the hallways and on the balcony. The hotel breakfast was extremely overpriced and pretty awful. The crepes were rubbery and there were fruit flies buzzing all around the uncovered food.

Lovely hotel, with one exception.

We came for a family holiday. The hotel was very nice and overall the room was quite comfortable and well laid out. We stayed in a room with a queen bed and the murphy bed in a separate room. My only criticism was that on entering the hotel, my mother needed to use the restroom, and the door for that room nearest the lobby was locked. We tried to ask repeatedly to be allowed to use it and the desk clerk told us we needed a key and for that we would have to wait in line to check in. That person's tone was rude and if this is the policy, it seems like a very bad one.

Fantastic location, right at edge of old town, everything is walking distance. Room has fantastic view and great value for the price ! Wonderful swimming pool. Could not think of a better hotel to book for Quebec city to see the old town. Will rebook when I return.

Great location. We were able to walk to everything. Parking was very convenient underneath the hotel. Parking is not free. There is a daily fee. Staff were very pleasant and helpful. Our room was spacious and clean and updated. Restaurant was excellent.We ate there for the buffet breakfast and for dinner. Would recommend dining there. We had a room with an inside balcony overlooking the pool and hot tub, which was very nice and fun to watch the live music on the weekend. We would definitely stay here again on our next trip to Quebec.

Very convenient location, you can walk to most of the main attractions. Could be a bit noisy at night, if there's event in the nearby plaza. As you can see on the pictures, the swimming pool there's really cool

The indoor pool was awesome always crowded with lots of children. The location was great! But the pillows were hard and lumpy! They should really think about buying some new ones.
