Perfect beach getaway!!
Our group (three couples and seven children ages 7-17) just returned from a week long stay at Island Girls. We had a fantastic time, couldn't have asked for a more perfect vacation!
Pros:
BEAUTIFUL property! Pictures don't do it justice, it is a modern, spacious home. Bedrooms and bathrooms all good sizes and immaculate. Large decks allowed us to enjoy our morning coffee while we people watched on the street below. While the house is not beach front, it offers a beautiful side view of the ocean. And for being located on a public street, it is surprisingly quiet!
PRIVATE POOL/HOT TUB!! Cannot express how much everyone enjoyed this amenity. And the tiki bar by the pool was our favorite spot to hang out, eat dinner, and have a few adult beverages. There is a half bath off the tiki bar, complete with a refrigerator inside, so we didn't have to keep running back into the house to grab a drink or use the bathroom. Also has a table that seats six out on the patio which has a fire pit in the middle where we roasted s'mores. LOVED this area of the house!!
CLOSE TO THE BEACH! The pictures make the house seem farther from the beach than it actually is, in reality it's a very easy five minute walk. Also right by the pier and several little souvenir/ice cream shops and markets. The only time we had to drive anywhere was to get major groceries at the Food Lion right over the bridge. Plus the house is a short drive to some great restaurants!
CONS (first two are minimal):
First, hot tub directions weren't supplied, so we spent the first day trying to figure out how to heat the tub up. Our neighbors kindly helped us figure it out (just turn a timer on the wall), but this wasn't very obvious and so we lost a day with it (I did contact the realty company but they didn't get back to us until the next day). Second, the kitchen, while well stocked, did not come with a soup pot (again, minor, but affected a couple of meals we had planned).
However, the biggest con was the kids bedroom. While the idea of three bunks largely appealed to our younger children, unfortunately the mattress/box springs were so uncomfortable that none of them could sleep on the beds and ended up on the couches. Even my 7 year old who can sleep anywhere (literally) didn't like the beds. I would highly suggest replacing them so this isn't a problem for anyone else as this house is ideal for families.
Overall this place is PERFECT for a beach vacation!
