Our room was disgusting, the ceiling had water damage, the air conditioning was broken and leaking, and there were dirty rags in the closet, a broken ironing board, and hair in the shower. I did not want to take my shoes off in this room, nor did I want to sleep in the bed. I asked the front desk attendant if we could change rooms, and he said they were sold out, which was strange because I only saw 2 or 3 other people in the hotel. Being a hotel manager myself, I tried to be as kind and understanding as possible and recommended that they not rent that room out again. The response from the gentleman at the front desk was, "Oh well, looks like you prepaid for it." The room was disgusting, and the operators should be ashamed that they rented a room like the one they did

This is a historic property so I expected it to be somewhat dated. The room was however, very dated. The air conditioner is loud and inefficient. Our room faced the plaza and the noise from the cars was very loud. Dining options were limited. Overall, I would rate this stay simply adequate. The staff were very friendly and helpful though.

The hotel’s history is very unique. Coffee bar in lobby was great. Mattress & linens were good. Hotel bathrooms in lobby need to be updated! Decent AC in rooms would be great or splits that actually cool the room would work.

There’s fancier options in Taos, but to stay on the Plaza is an iconic experience, even for those of us who are from New Mexico. The rooms are small as one might expect from a historical property, but well appointed and comfortable. The lobby and guest lounge are classic Land of Enchantment, and it’s super easy to walk and shop/eat/drink from the La Fonda. For a quick getaway, it’s a perfect spot.

Rarely do I say I would not recommend a property but this hotel was a disappointment. While it was clean it was old. I booked a two room suite because I thought i would be able to watch tv while the other person slept, there was only one chair in the two rooms and that was for the desk. You had to go up a step to enter bathroom and that is a hazard.
