This is our 4th and probably last time at this resort. Very unfortunate that most of Akumel was under construction. Overall our stay was good until the last day. Our airport transportation wasn’t picking us up until 10am. That allowed us to run down for a quick breakfast. When we returned to our room we COULD NOT GET IN. We were locked out of our room with the car picking us up in 30 mins. I tried to get help from 4 different people and no one would/could help us get in our room. We were at least half a mile from the front desk so my husband ran to the front to get a new key. The front desk didn’t offer to drive him back to the room, did not care about our situation. We weren't expecting anyone to go above and beyond, we just wanted minimum help and couldn't even get that. By the time we got in our room we were both dripping in sweat and not the start we wanted for our 12 hour travel day. Do better, you already have our money so why help I guess? The fact we were told "NO" multiple times when asking for help is inexcusable.

My experience from May 2025. There’s nothing luxury about this place. Priced like a luxury hotel; The name is very deceiving. The place is old and beaten up. The food is not good. I was very disappointed. However, the front desk gentleman, named Jose, did everything he could to make our stay better. He got us a mattress topper because the mattress was horrible. We only stayed there because of his effort and kindness and the fact that we could NOT get our money back! I will not go back.

First the good, I think this hotel counts with the best All you can eat restaurant of all Mayan Riviera, food is excellent. Now the bad, the beach was ful, of algae, probably the season, here is what I think can be i proved, the Property is under construction, lots of buildings getting the swim up pool, trucks in and out constantly. The pool during this time of the year is a sauna, uncomfortably hot and even worse when it starts to cool down then they close the pool bar at 5 pm and the pool around 7 pm. Now the worse, my room was supposed to be a luxurious room with ocean view, roo. Looked dated. The wifi was a headache, I called a tech and the solution was to lift up my IP privacy protections, of course I set it back up the second the guy left the room, he was king though but that is NO solution. NOW The worst of the worst is I got scabies from lack of sanitary measures probably.So first thing I did when I got back was a dematologist visit, nooot happy at all!

I lost my purse at one point and they ensured it was located and returned to me:) The food at this all inclusive is top notch and the restaurant selection was also great ! The hotel says there’s 14 restaurants on the property. One place took us 10-15 minutes to get to via hotel shuttle. You have to make reservations early in order to get into at least one of the restaurants. This information was not given to us before booking or arriving to the Akumal hotel. Guest relations said were you have to book at least three weeks out before you are staying you’re staying at the hotel in order to get into certain restaurants as majority of them were already booked, and the only option would be buffet. The guest relations/manager on duty was upset and stated he was making a formal complaint on Expedia since they don’t inform customers of this policy The room wasn’t clean thoroughly and the tub was stopped up. We had to call for assistance multiple times even going to the lobby asking for help with no one coming up to the room for hours I will say the hotel did try to make it right by moving us to a better room which helped after several hours. Overall that first day was wasted, The hotel it is also very driven by phone use, If the Wi-Fi isn’t working right, then you may run into some issues. Some of the staff seemed bothered when asking for assistance

Beware if you are booking this vs. the other resorts nearby for the dinner restaurant reservations as you will be lucky if you get a 9:30pm reservation if any, they can also cancel your reservation anytime and not provide any compensation. The group of Bahia Principe resorts here had 3 fires in 8 years which is concerning. All other guests affected at other resorts were upgraded to new rooms at Akumal and allowed to eat at the Akumal buffet for all meals which caused 30 minute to 1 hour lineups for meals as basically guests from 2 resorts were sharing the same facilities. Guest services including managers will do absolutely nothing. Better to buy at a lower priced resort and save your money as this was not a luxury or 5 star resort experience.

Our five-night stay at Bahia Principe Luxury Akumal in May 2025 provided a welcome opportunity for relaxation. The online check-in process, completed ten days prior, streamlined our arrival at the resort. We were greeted with refreshing champagne and a cold towel, and our requested Junior Suite Ocean View Superior in Villa 66 (first floor, oceanfront, near the adults-only pool) was ready. The trolley ride to our room offered a glimpse of local wildlife, which was a nice touch. Our room was well-maintained by housekeeping, and the consistently stocked mini-bar was appreciated. Bringing our Roku allowed for easy TV viewing. One of the major advantages of this resort is access to the restaurants across all four Bahia properties. While this offers great variety, the dinner reservation system via the app was a point of frustration. Despite early attempts, many restaurants were fully booked, leaving us with later dining times and not our first option for dinner. However, we did enjoy our meals at Thali, Tequila, Maiko, La Gran Tortuga, and Frutos Del Mar. Tequila's buffet format was unexpected given the reservation requirement. The Coffee Shop was a daily highlight. Breakfast at the main buffet was satisfactory, contrasting with a less impressive experience at the adults-only Katok. Navigating the expansive resort was made easy by the frequent golf cart trolleys. The beach was a major draw! Overall, Bahia Principe Luxury Akumal offers a wide range of amenities and experiences!

Ended up with severe food poisoning. Could only eat bananas, water, had to purchase my own electrolites as I was severely ill. Room service wouldn't bring water, I had to call several times. I barely ate ANY food as I was so severely ill from the food, and they wouldn't even refund me, not even a cent!! The maid put my wet bathing suit on top of my hair straightener, ruining it! No refund there!! Power went out twice. Had to run to the lobby in the dark. Risk band key didn't work, had to yet again, run all the way to the lobby alone in the dark SICK. Meats (coldcuts) are left out in the heat for hours without ice or cooler, cream sauces etc. I have never been so sick in my entire life. I will NEVER BE BACK. They wouldn't even replace my hair straightener! Rat feces all over the stairs, I requested them to clean twice. Which re-appeared the following day. Fell on the dock that had NO warning signs of slippery (where I'm from we don't have algae, docks etc) fell back, hit my head and arm, cut my hand, blood everywhere. Luckily there was a lifeguard there to give me first aide!! Nightmare of a vacation!!!!!!

I love the beach of Akumal. It's crystal clear and shallow water with many fishes. It's perfect for small children to enjoy. My 4 year old loves to swim with little fishes around him.

We stayed here to see if it offered anything better or more than the Barcelo. We have been at Barcelo 5 times and we will continue. Very disappointed in the lack of snorkel space.
