Expensive stay at a construction zone

Was charged $450/night to stay in a hotel that was under construction with only one working elevator. Room was freezing despite turning up heat. Construction was 8 AM-6PM M-S, and workers triggered a fire alarm on Saturday morning. Sent a similar review to Hyatt and received a sorry this happened, hope to see you next time letter. Bloomington hotels know they have you over a barrel when big events take place at the U and charge exorbitant prices.

Hotel is under major renovations and th workers are living in th hotel and using the Dining amaemties and elevators, playing loud music at all hours. Loud and dirty construction the entire time. Only 1 elevator in use for guests, workers, housekeeping etc. TVs were not hooks up in rooms and the fire alarm went off one morning and th entire hotel had to evacuate due to dust from the construction. The gym isn’t open. A total mess and being charged outrageous prices. The only positive thing I can say is that staff was extremely nice and tried to do everything to make th guests comfortable but it was out of their control. The hotel should not be open until the renovations are completed.

What could have been a great stay was ruined by human indifference. Went to Bloomington for the IU vs Purdue basketball game and the town was packed for a sold-out game which should have been anticipated by staff. At check in we were assigned a room on the 5th floor with no warning that the floors were being replaced on the 6th floor. Workers worked every day (including Sunday) from 8am - 6pm making it impossible to get any decent rest in the room that was extra expensive due to the weekend’s traffic and events. Even people on the 4th floor complained that it sounded like the workers were inside their rooms. One elevator (of two) didn’t work which meant sometimes 10-20 minute waits and a cardboard-lined elevator shared with construction workers, cleaning carts, etc. At check in it was suggested we move our car to the garage with no mention of the $16/night fee (while the lot immediately next to the hotel was $7) until we had already moved the car. (We moved it back.) Lastly, when I made mention to the person at the front desk about the work starting so early on Sunday morning, I was met with a shrug and indifference. I get that the hotel needs new flooring, but couldn’t that have been scheduled for the university’s spring break or summer break, when presumably traffic and hotel prices were not so high? Ridiculous and NOT what I would have expected for the $ or hotel brand. The only plus was the location.

We had an excellent stay at the Hyatt. The only down side was the construction that was going on on the floor above. The fitness center was also closed because of this. Staff were friendly and helpful and this location was very convenient.

I could not fit my full size truck in the parking garage and I was not warned of the loud noise to come at 7 am due to construction. Would not have stayed had I been told in the first place about the construction. Definitely didn’t get any sleep!
