Overall, my experience at Hotel Kurrajong was positive, but several issues left me genuinely baffled—particularly for a hotel that prides itself on prestige and quality. And if it doesn’t, then certainly the price I paid reflects otherwise. During my two-night stay, I paid for both the room and breakfast. Despite confirming with hotel management that breakfast was included, I was told otherwise by staff. Even after showing the confirmation email, I was asked again the following morning by the same person. For a hotel of this caliber, such a lapse in communication is egregious. Staff should review guest profiles and internal notes before denying a service as basic as breakfast. While the matter itself was minor, it revealed a deeper lack of cohesion between management, staff, and guest services. Unfortunately, this reflects a broader issue within the Australian hospitality industry, where genuine, attentive service is far from ubiquitous. Having worked in the service industry across Asia and North America, I understand the challenges—but it’s disappointing to see such inconsistency in standards. Thankfully, tipping isn’t a requirement here, because the quality of service often wouldn’t warrant it. Regrettably, Australian hospitality has become synonymous with egregious service rather than excellence.

The main reason we stay at the Kurrajong when in Canberra is its history and the refurb which was really well done.The location is good for the National Gallery and Happy Hour is a good thing to do also. Felt that Room Service was a bit overpriced but Chifley's Bar puts on a good breakfast and the outdoor lawn area is nice.

Very nice historical hotel that is a walking distance to the old Parliament. It's situated in the quiet part of Canberra. This is our second time at Hotel Kurrajong and after so many years, it still delivers great quality for the price. The sofa is adding a little bit the whole place is well maintained.

Overall the hotel was great. There were a couple of issues that needed attention. 1) booked two rooms with one with two single beds. It took multiple reminder to have it changed. 2) one of the shower ceiling lights was faulty, notified front desk and there was no follow up.

I just love the Kurrajong Hotel - a beautiful and stylish older style hotel. The rooms are spacious and comfy - I love the restaurant and bar - and it is in a quiet spot in Canberra but easy access to everything. I have stayed there on my own for business and with my partner on a holiday and it never disappoints.

Disappointed Stay

I booked & paid a Classic King room but was first allocated a Disability Access Room. When I questioned staff of this was told a Classic King room was not ready. I then waited for a room to made available. In the meantime the only lift broke down. I was then offered a Classic Queen room, which I accepted, but due lift not working I then had to wait for staff to assist carrying my bag up the stairs. On entering this new allocated room, an empty beer bottle was still on the counter top & the room had a peculiar odour. I said to the staff person 'has this room been cleaned'? He assured me it had. Not long after, with just one knock on the door, another staff person entered the room to re-stock the mini bar. This person did apologise for disturbing me & was surprised I was in the room. So obviously the room was not ready. The peculiar odour of the room came from the bathroom & the waste pipe area, this was not addressed during my stay. And, the lift was in & out of access durning my entire stay from Fri to Sun. I hardly got any restful sleep on the Fri night due to continual loud noise of wall & floor banging/stomping emitting from the adjoining room, with this going on till very late & starting up again early on the Sat morning???? On checkout, I was not asked by staff of the satisfaction of my stay. My previous stays at this hotel have been satisfactory but I was very disappointed this time, especially with the poor check in service & the room allocated, which did not meet.
