The Indigo Inn is a charming boutique hotel that feels cozy and homey. The location is unbeatable—right in downtown Charleston. We walked everywhere and only needed an Uber when we were in a rush. Tons of restaurants, coffee shops, and shops are steps away. The staff were so kind and welcoming, and the complimentary food was a great touch. Light breakfast is served daily, plus a 5 PM wine and cheese hour, and freshly baked cookies at 8 PM (my dad’s favorite!). The courtyard is peaceful, and the vibe overall is relaxed and comfortable. We stayed in Room 202, which was spacious and had great AC and comfortable beds. However, it was directly across from the housekeeping storage area, which made for an eyesore every time we opened the door. Staff did their best to keep it tidy, but I’d recommend requesting a different room. The bathroom was small and only had one sink. I also wish there were bottled or refillable water options in the room, as staying hydrated was a bit tough with the small cups provided. No gym on-site, but we walked so much that it wasn’t a huge deal. At just under $300 a night, it felt like a great value for Charleston, where many hotels in the area are much pricier. Would stay again—just with a reusable water bottle and a different room request!

The Indigo Inn is a mixed bag. First of all let’s list the good! The staff is professional and friendly. The location is excellent. You are close to shopping restaurants and local activities. Charleston is a pretty walkable city and the Indigo Inn Is central to it all. The amenities are nice. There’s a breakfast every morning that is decent and offers a good variety for a breakfast bar. They put out a charcuterie every afternoon with wine, beer and an assortment of soft drinks. There are warm cookies at night that are delicious. Coffee and tea are available 24/7. Our rooms were cleaned each day with fresh towels and were done in a very timely fashion. There is a nice courtyard to sit in for breakfast or anytime really. Now for the areas that could use some improvement. The rooms are old and the furnishings are old. The bathroom could be a challenge if you’re a larger person. It really is a motel, not a hotel. The interior has outdoor hallways and metal stairs that go from floor to floor. There is an elevator which was helpful for our luggage. The bed was not uncomfortable but the pillows are rock are. There I is lot of storage. They provided us with an extension cord as there are not many outlets. Therooms are dark and the air conditioner is old and VERY loud. It is on a thermostat and goes off and on all night. It also could use a good cleaning. Would I stay here again? Maybe, but I would ask for a room that had an outdoor window and I would also know what to expect.

Not as expected

The Inn is just ‘okay’ so if you are expecting a quaint elevated Charleston experience with this property you should probably look elsewhere. The rooms are dated, we had a very old wood frame bed that squeaked with every move. The carpets were dark, I’m sure to hide dirt, but that with the dated furniture gave the room somewhat of an unclean feel. Also there is no soundproofing between rooms so your neighbors conversations and those coming up from the atrium can be heard at all times. Had we planned on being in Charleston longer than just one night I would have selected another hotel as there are many to choose from with this price point. Staff was pleasant enough yet pretty sure experience mentioned above was out of their control.

Unfortunately not what expected.

The hotel itself is cute and has charm, but that didnt help everything that was bad… It was such a loud hotel, because of the shape, all the sound in the middle echoes throughout the rooms. On a weekend, in Charleston, is not nice or peaceful at all. The room door did not close all the way and kept pulling in&out because of the drift coming in, so we had to pull a chair in front of it. The bed was uncomfortable but thankfully clean, the bathroom… not so clean. It asks about eco-friendliness, the only thing that was eco friendly was maybe the glass bottles of complimentary wine. it sadnesses me to say this hotel was not enjoyable to stay at.

This hotel was a great find! I moved from a more expensive hotel nearby and was so happy I did. They provide all of the nicest touches, from the free drinks and food spread offered, to the in room amenities, and especially the staff and great service level.
