We left immediately after check in to the room. the room was not nearly as shown from the picture. The lock does not really work, broken windows, no AC, the room looks terrible. My wife does not feel safe, we quickly booked another hotel and left. The money was totally wasted. We took some pictures of the room as painful reminders

Nice staff. The bed was big and comfortable but the shower could use some work. The bathroom window was facing a nice forest with a home behind it and it didn’t have a curtain blocking that window. Also shower curtain is blocking your body but had an open netting at the top which you can still see because the shower is a bit raised. I threw my towel over and I was fine. For a quick stay it’s great. everything else was very clean and had no problems

The worst Hotel I’ve ever been to. The sheets where dirty, dirty socks laying on the floor, no a/c, the door seem like with one push it will open up, no hot water in the room and no toilet paper. If you are use to living out side this is the economical hotel for you. I literally checked in and checked back out after 10 minutes.

It is very cute and old fashioned, with alot of Hawaiiana flavor but missing some important upgrades. Hot water is a problem, there's no tv and no air conditioning, although the fans were adequate. Staff is lovely and personable.

The hotel is older and a little run down, but that was no surprise as they were very clear on the condition. Given that, it’s very clean and I had no concerns about the bed linens or towels. It all added to the character! It’s located just a few blocks from downtown which was fantastic, but I didn’t feel totally comfortable with the area to walk there by myself at night so I just drove.

Charming but noisy

Charming old building, but it needs some love. The bathroom door got stuck shut twice b/c the door catches on the frame. The bed was comfy and the shower pressure was good. Main reason for less than 5 stars is crappy neighbors with lots of yelling. The windows are single pane so we got "serenaded" by coqui frogs and could hear the planes coming into Hilo airport.

At first the property seemed very cozy but once inside our room we found that the walls were paper thin, the showers were ice cold no matter how long you let the water run and we were only able to get 1 towel. After leaving the hotel early we were promised a refund for the last 2 days of our trip which 3 days later is still nowhere to be seen. Aside from the beachfront view this place doesnt have much going for it and has alot of work to do if they want to keep future guests happy. 3 out of 10.

It was the worst experience ever. The building is literally falling apart, clogged drains, no AC, NO Bathroom WINDOW (lots of mosquitoes), dirty lobby and lots of really weird people. 0/10

I love the old Hawaiian look that the Wild Ginger Hotel provides. There were no fancy pictures or decorations but what they did have, gave me a sense of old Hawaii. I enjoyed every bit of staying there and I plan on staying there again.

I would stay far from this property. From the very first glance it appeared unsafe and should be ruled condemned. So sketchy I REQUESTED TO CANCEL. and was denied. 24 hour policy they say. They should consider closing while remodeling if that is what they are doing.

Loved all the natural plants. We were in the end unit and the floor was very slanted. The place was very dilapidated. A building of some kind right next to our room had almost completely fallen down. Seemed very unsafe in our room. No hot water and just a dribble in the shower. Drawers taped shut, etc. Actually hole in the glass window. Many things wrong.

What type of traveler are you?

I normally don't leave reviews but wanted to point out a few things that way future travelers have more information. The hotel is located in downtown Hilo. From my understanding downtown Hilo has a policy of keeping it as a historic site so all the buildings are original. This hotel would also be the same. I also believe this hotel is over 100 years old. That means that there is no air conditioning, no tv. Your breakfast will consist of fruits, coffee, pastries, and span musubi. The time that we were there we had to use a communal shower if we wanted to take a warm shower as the regular water temperature in our room never got warm. In my opinion there are two types of travelers. On one side you have the ones that are here for the experience, others are here for the comfort. If you are a couple or travelling with family make sure you know in what camp you are in. I was fine with our situation but my husband not so much. That is why I am writing this review to inform people. If I read this type of review previous to us booking, unfortunately this would not be a hotel I would have selected again for the reasons above.
