We stayed from Friday to Sunday, took a short trip to San Diego, and then returned to stay again on Tuesday and Wednesday. Although we checked in twice, the two rooms were very different. The first stay was in a queen room, which was surprisingly spacious and in excellent condition. The second stay was in a king room, but the overall space felt much smaller, which was unexpected. The bathroom fan was also not working, which made things inconvenient. It’s a bit confusing because it feels like the experience depends on luck at check-in. Some of the older rooms definitely need updates.

Decent hotel but some definite pros and cons. Pros: very near UCLA's campus. The hotel offers free shuttles to the UCLA medical center as well. Complimentary breakfast was better than expected. Cons: attached is a picture from my room. Was this at high noon in the middle of summer with that much light coming through the curtain??? Nope, that was in the middle of the night. I tried to find a light switch to turn of the patio lights and there is not one. I called the front desk and they said that they said that the lights have to stay on to light the alleyway. These were very bright lights. Next, the parking spots were very small. If you end up renting a car, be aware that the parking spot are a bit precarious. Overall a good experience but if you like to sleep in total darkness like I do, maybe consider a different hotel.

Corner room 323 had skylight in bathroom which was nice so didn’t need to flip the light switch in the middle of the night. Staff pleasant. Mini fridge was a good temp. No freezer section. Coffee maker is the kind to brew a single cup from a filter bag. Didn’t use the TV, microwave, room safe or patio. Only grabbed an orange and granola bar from breakfast. Checked in right at 3pm on purpose to get a self-park space. Tight but okay for mid size sedan. No way an SUV, minivan or super duty truck would fit! Friday night in LA you’d expect late activity but only heard guests in hall 11 pm. Some dude screaming his head off out on the street before 8 am though. Glad to be on upper floor! Hammer Museum an easy block walk. UCLA campus under a mile.

On the positive side, the location is great if you have kids attending UCLA and are there for a visit. Most of the hotels in the area are very upscale and very expensive so I was looking for a option that was around 200 and the Royal delivered. Check-in was easy parking was tight but part of the cost of the room which was nice on the downside …. The bed was terribly worn out. I had to sleep sideways on the bed. I felt like meat in a taco. I woke up very itchy, which leads me to believe that there must be bedbugs. The free breakfast definitely was free and upon entry to the room that was very small and claustrophobic. I opted for Starbucks down the street. The good news is there’s lots of decent food options within a block or two outside of the bad bed and the homeless scrimmage at 7 AM outside the hotel everything was great.

I believe this is a newly renovated hotel. Our suite is spacious and comfortable, with very quiet and comfortable furnishings. The room service was quick and the staff was friendly. I will definitely be back next time.
