The staff is friendly. Check in is smooth. The hotel's environment is very beautiful, and you can see the beautiful lake and Mountain from the room window. Room space is enough. Dinner is very good. Big parking area.

Location, location, location. This isn't a five-star hotel - think camping lodge from the 50s. They've added wifi and TVs in the past few years, but you can still escape modern life if you want to.

The dining and food service were excellent. All meals and the wait staff were wonderful and made us feel at home. -Our room was not cleaned of pet hair on the floors before or during our stay. This concerned us since we mentioned is to the front desk after we checked in and nothing was done about the issue. Otherwise, it was a wonderful stay.

Room was severely outdated. Television did not work. Food was not good, didn’t stay for breakfast. Just wanted to get out of there. I wanted to have a special evening with my 88 year old aunt, but that didn’t happen. Very disappointed

It's an old lodge doing the best it can with the infrastructure... Also there is absolutely no accessibility access except in the main lodge building which does have an elevator.

Probably the worst lodging experience I have ever experienced. Discovered upon arriving at the room that they had put us in a Pet Friendly room. I did not ask for a Pet Friendly room because I don’t have a pet, and more importantly because I all allergic to pet dander. When I returned to the front desk to ask about it, it was clear that they knew all along they were placing us in the wrong room. The desk clerk said, “yes, sorry but we can’t move you tonight.” There were no more than 20 cars in the parking lot! This lodge is on the Blue Ridge Parkway, in a very remote location in the mountains of VA. There are no restaurants on the parkway or nearby. We had traveled all day and were starving. Really looking forward to a nice relaxing dinner. We went into the restaurant at the lodge at 8:00. Every website or printed material about the restaurant stated they were open until 9. While waiting to be seated a server said, “we close at 8 on Sunday.” The posted hours said 9, the website said 9, the pamphlets and flyers said 9. The clerk said, “yeah, they should really change that on the website.” We were on top of a mountain with nothing around us at 8:30 on a Sunday night. We had not eaten since 7:00 am and there were no other options. Worse, we checked in at the front desk directly across from the restaurant at 7;00. The desk clerk never said a word about the restaurant closing at 8, And..,,, the coffee bar had no creamer or sugar, the room stayed too warm and stuffy all night

Beautiful location! The hotel is old, but the bed was comfortable. The view from our little porch was outstanding. I would go back for that alone. The food in their dining room is mediocre.

The property is old and has not been updated. The carpet is terrible. The furniture stained. The AC barely works. Dust on a lamp that I could have written my name. Virtually no WiFi in the rooms. The bedsheets felt clean and bed not bad. Shared concerns with manager. She was understanding, expressed they are having issues and comped our breakfast.

The Peaks of Otter hotel looked nice online, but it had a few flaws. First, the rooms were not very clean. It is not a new hotel and it is tatty, I think. The worst thing, though, was the buffet on Sunday night. This wasn't mentioned in the reviews I read online, as I wouldn't have gone to a buffet. Anyway, there were few choices: Fried chicken was the only main dish. There were green beans that had the oddest flavor, as if there were a rancid ingredient in them. The dessert table was just awful. In all, I wished that I hadn't eaten there. I would never, ever go back to the Peaks of Otter hotel.

The room was attractive and comfortable. Absence of porch rockers is a negative. Outside of lodging buildings badly needs paint. Dining experience has declined dramatically from past experiences. Playing 80's Rock in the dining room is totally inappropriate for that lakeside setting ( and I like music but it's terrible the ambiance desired at the Peals ding room. Soft music or something like mountain dulcimer would be fitting). Waited 20 min for fresh chicken- 3 old wings were all that was available. Rolls were hard from sitting a long time. Experience could be so much more and cost creating that heightened experience would be recovered from increased business volume. Badly need visionary management team.
