This is a cute older hotel in Monterey. The staff are great and rooms are clean. Location is an easy walk to downtown or the wharf. The Pelican Inn is my go to place to stay when in Monterey.

Stayed in a one bedroom with a fireplace. It was really nice highly recommend it if you can get one. Bathroom was okay some stains on the toilet seat but nothing crazy. Heater and AC works good. Nice patio out for smoking. Only problem if you get a room downstairs is that you can hear people walking from upstairs. Thin flooring unfortunately. Overall though good convenient stay.

Convenient to downtown Monterey and to Highway 1, but it's a budget motel and don't expect anything more. My requests emailed to the property and to Expedia requesting an upstairs room were never confirmed or acted upon. I ended up staying on the first floor and the ceiling was paper thin. I heard everything from the room above me. It's common for a propertied to take a temporary deposit and the Pelican Inn did so. It just never mentioned it while I was checking it The Wifi was free and it was "spotty." One of the chairs in the workspace areas was wobbly and potentially dangerous. It you stay at Pelican Inn, expect little and you won't be expected.

This room looked unclean, it smelled horrid (the bathroom was so bad we had to have the bathroom door closed at all times), and you could hear everything anyone in neighbouring rooms did (tv, conversations, walking/footsteps). The pictures online don’t show how unkept this hotel is. There was mold/mildew in corners, the door frame to the bathroom was rotting, and the fixtures were all rusted. The shower didn’t look clean enough to use and the sink water was ice cold no matter how long it ran for to warm up. Not worth the lower price at all.

The Pelican Inn is a great place to stay. Walkable to downtown and the wharf. Staff is great and really knowledgeable about the location. One of the better cheaper hotels in the area and my go to when I stay in Monterey.
