A true gem hidden in the rougher part of city

Listen to me when I tell you that you’re not going to find a better quality place for this unbeatable price point. I’ve stayed at plenty of higher end hotels including the ritz, fairmont, and four seasons and I can attest that the quality of the rooms here are equal to or possibly even better than the hotels I’ve listed. I paid an average of about $130 per night for 5 nights, which is unbeatable considering its San Francisco and beautiful hotel. However, there is a caveat. When I say this hotel is a diamond the rough, I mean that literally. It borders the tenderloin so there are numerous unsavory folk perusing the streets both day and night; night time being the most rampant and sketchy. As far as parking goes, it’s an open air lot across the street that is guarded with a barbed-wire fence but all of the druggies and sketchy people linger just beyond the gate and the price to park is $60 per day I believe, which will negate the cheap price point quickly depending on the length of your stay. I suggest leaving the car at home and just rely on ride share apps to get around. I advise against aimlessly walking the area outside of the hotel as the tenderloin is notoriously the worst and most dangerous area of the city. Overall, this place is comfortable and beautiful in many aspects apart from its unfortunate location. 10/10 would stay again as staying anywhere else in the city for this length of time would cost me double or greater than the $650 I paid for my stay.

A gem. Very well appointed and decorated rooms. Quiet. Central heat and a/c, so no noisy individual units. Window even opens. Excellent gym. Rooftop sitting and restaurant area beautiful. On edge of Tenderloin but feels safe - security guard by door. We'll return.

Hotel was perfect especially since we were seeing a show at The Warfield which was right next door. As for the area around the hotel it was unsafe and dirty with people doing drugs around every corner.

Security was the star of the show

The guy who checked us in didn't explain anything very well. But the rest of the stay was amazing! The lady we spoke to on the second day was super helpful. The security guards were PHENOMENAL! Super friendly and helpful. Helped us with all of our bags. The rooftop restaurant was super good with amazing views.

PROS: Great location on Market Street near Cable Cars, BART, Trader Joe’s, Target, San Francisco Centre, and IKEA. Peaceful rooms (concrete walls and floors), comfortable down bedding, really great Cowshed-branded amenities, clean rooms, modern furnishings, USB charging ports everywhere, and quiet environmental controls (i.e. HVAC). Very very excellent staff and service. A wheelchair we had shipped to the hotel arrived 2 weeks early so they held it in storage for us. Security staff standing watch outside the front entrance (Turk Street) are a very welcomed sight at night. CONS: Our room didn’t have a desk but we probably didn’t need it anyway.

Valet parking only. I would not suggest trying to find street parking. Everything in the property is clean & delightful but be careful stepping out I wouldn’t consider it to be safe especially at night.
